So in the issue of building bridges, they decided to be “ahead of the rest” and in 2011 opened a surface road that connected the island of Huangdao with the port of Qingdao. This building was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's longest bridge passing over water spaces, as its length is more than 42 km. According to China TV, the cost of this graceful colossus was $1.5 billion. At the same time, the British edition of The Telegraph indicates that these are greatly underestimated figures, and the taxpayers of the Celestial Empire paid 8.8 billion US dollars for this miracle of technical thought. As a result of the construction, the journey from Huangdao to Qingdao has been reduced by 30 km, which means that drivers now cover it 20 minutes faster than if they were driving on the old road. Thus, the question remains whether the game was worth the candle.

The world's longest land bridge

In the same China is the Danyang-Kunshan giant viaduct. It is over 164 km long and runs between Nanjing and Shanghai, mostly above ground. This railway bridge was opened a couple of years ago and is one of the modern landmarks in China. As for its value, it exceeded 10 billion US dollars.

In addition to the already named Danyang-Kunshan Viaduct and the Qingdao Bay Bridge, the Top 10 longest structures of this kind include such Chinese structures as the Tianjin Viaduct built in 2010 (second place, 113.7 km), the bridge over the Wei River (79 .7 km), Yangcun Bridge (8th place, 35.8 km), Hangzhouwan (9th place) and Rongyang (10th place, 35.6 km). Also on this list were the Pontchartrain Dam and the Munchak Swamp Bridge (both located in the US), while Taiwan's Bang Na Highway is fourth, which is worth talking about in more detail.

Bangkok Expressway

Taiwan's Bang Na Highway is, of course, not the longest bridge in the world at the moment, since its length is 54 km with a width of 24 m. However, it is interesting in that it passes through the territory of the suburbs of Bangkok, and the passage through it is paid. The fact is that when entering the capital of Thailand on free roads, motorists usually get into huge traffic jams, and using Bang Na, they will find themselves in the city center in just a few minutes without any problems. It is also worth mentioning that until 2010 this building bore the title of "the world's longest bridge".

Pontchartrain

The vast majority of the world's longest bridges were built in the 21st century. However, there are also veterans on their list. For example, before the longest bridge in the world over water was built in China in 2011, the Pontchartrain, built in 1969, was considered as such. Its length exceeds 38 km, and it connects the cities of Metairie and Mandeville, located on opposite shores of the lake of the same name. Thanks to this bridge, travel time from one of these settlements in another it was reduced by 50 minutes.

The shortest of the longest

This title rightfully belongs to the Junyang Bridge, which is located on the territory of the PRC. Its length is only (!) About 36 km. At the same time, this structure is extremely interesting and complex, as it consists of wide overpasses and two large bridges connecting the banks of the Yangtze River and the Beixinzhou Islands. Construction, begun in 2000, lasted five years and cost taxpayers US$700 million.

The longest bridges in the world, photos of which often adorn tourist brochures along with the most famous sights of a particular country, as a rule, are famous not only for their grandiose size. For example, Hangzhouwan reduced the time to overcome the distance between the cities of Ningbo and Shanghai by 4 times (up to one and a half hours instead of the previous 5-5.5).

Talking about the “most-most” bridges in the world, one cannot fail to mention the Millau Viaduct. After all, this is the highest structure of its kind on our planet. The bridge was built to provide the shortest route between the French city of Beziers and Paris and has a length of 2.46 km. At the same time, the height of the viaduct is 343 m, so it is higher eiffel tower, and the cost of implementing this complex project amounted to almost 4 hundred million euros. Another feature of the Millau Viaduct is the unique resin-based coating, which perfectly adapts to the deformations caused by strong winds and temperature fluctuations.

Domestic giants

Unfortunately, there are no Russian ones among the longest structures of this kind. The fact is that the longest domestic bridge has a length of 13.97 km, and it connects the banks of the Kama River. At the moment, work is underway to build its second stage. Among the giants located on the territory of the Russian Federation, there is also the almost 13-kilometer Ulyanovsk Bridge, the opening of the first stage of which took place in 2009, although construction work began in 1986. As for the structure, which occupies the third place, it is located near the village of Pristannoye and connects the banks of the Volga.
