Technical characteristics of Toyota Hilux. Technical characteristics of Toyota Hilux Toyota Hilux which engine is better

The 8th generation Toyota Hilux pickup truck, sales of which started in 2015, is based on a frame with high resistance to bending and torsion. It rests on a front independent double wishbone and a rear continuous axle on springs (length 1400 mm). The suspension has three settings: Standard – for all types of roads, Comfort – for driving mainly on asphalt, Heavy duty – for maximum loads. In Russia, the car is offered only with last option a chassis designed for high payload capacity and a Double Cab with five seats.

Under the hood of the car there may be one of two completely new turbocharged diesel engines of the GD series, presented shortly before the release of the latest generation pickup truck. Units with a volume of 2.4 and 2.8 liters replaced the 2.5-liter and 3.0-liter engines of the KD series, which, by the standards of modern engines, reached retirement age (their debut occurred in 2000-2001). The 2GD-FTV engine, which has a smaller cubic capacity, is capable of delivering up to 150 hp. power and up to 400 Nm of torque, available from 1600 rpm. Its “bigger” 2.8-liter brother with the 1GD-FTV index boasts an output of 177 hp. and a torque of 450 Nm.

Each of the power units received its own gearbox. The 2.4 turbo-four works in conjunction with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the 2.8 diesel is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The distribution of traction, regardless of the modification, is handled by a plug-in all-wheel drive system with the rear axle constantly engaged and the front axle connected if necessary. There is also a reduction series with a gear ratio of 2.566. The Toyota Hilux pickup truck is ready to storm almost any off-road terrain, helped by the impressive ground clearance of 227 mm and decent approach/departure angles of 31/26 degrees. The car will not fail even when overcoming water obstacles up to 700 mm deep.

The installation of new generation turbodiesels has significantly increased efficiency. Fuel consumption of Toyota Hilux 2.4 with manual transmission, according to the passport data, does not exceed 7.3 liters per 100 km in a combined driving cycle. A car with a 2.8-liter engine at the same driving pace consumes about 8.5 liters of diesel fuel.

The transportation capabilities of the Toyota Hilux are limited by the size of the trunk (1569x1109x481 mm) and the maximum load capacity declared by the manufacturer (880 kg). The cargo potential can be increased using a trailer, the weight of which should not exceed 3.2 tons.

Toyota Hilux diesel engines

GD series motors are a new development by Toyota. They are 15% more economical than their predecessors in the KD series, while having a 25% increase in torque. The improvement of technical characteristics was facilitated by the installation of pistons made of reinforced silicon-aluminum alloy, optimization of the shape of the combustion chamber, an increase in injection pressure to a maximum of 2200 bar, the use of a more compact compressor with variable geometry, the use of a new software(32-bit controller), installation of a catalytic converter with SCR urea additives (reduces the content of nitrogen oxide in the exhaust by 99%). The introduction of new technologies made it possible to achieve a record thermal efficiency of 44%.

Toyota Hilux all-wheel drive diagram

The distribution of traction forces in the new Toyota Hilux occurs according to the Part-Time scheme. Only the rear axle is constantly engaged, and the front axle is connected only when the appropriate mode is selected. The connection is rigid, there is no center differential. The front axle is equipped with an Automatic Disconnecting Differential system, which disconnects one axle shaft, as a result of which rotation from the wheels is not transmitted to the driveshaft and it does not spin idle.

The reduction gear mechanism built into the transfer case provides a reduction of 2.566. The locking of cross-axle differentials is simulated by the A-TRC traction control system, which monitors slippage and brakes in certain moment the right wheel. The rear differential can be locked by pressing a button.

The transition between 2WD and 4WD modes is carried out using a switch on the center console. All-wheel drive can be turned off while driving, and turned on when driving at a speed of less than 50 km/h.

Toyota HiLux is a mid-size body-on-frame pickup truck popular all over the world, dating back to 1968. With. and a five-speed manual transmission or a three-liter diesel engine with a capacity of 171 hp. With. and a five-speed automatic transmission. Prices for a pickup truck started at 1.4 million rubles (in 2015).

The Hilux is rightfully considered to be the longest-living model in the Toyota lineup. Toyota Hilux are cars with diesel engines. A contemporary of the first hippies, this pickup truck was released in 1968. The classic multifunctional Japanese car has always been distinguished by power, endurance and reliability. Since 1968, the Toyota Hilux has undergone a number of changes, both in terms of design and in terms of improved chassis. In Europe, the Toyota Hilux was introduced at the end of 2005. Sales of the brutal pickup truck in Russia began in 2010. In 2011, the company introduced an updated Toyota Hilux pickup truck with improved technical characteristics, and today it is already known that the Japanese auto giant is preparing a new generation Hilux 2014.

The Toyota Hilux diesel car is considered one of the company's most successful models; the manufacturer has produced and sold twelve million vehicles. On Russian market the car is of constant interest due to its excellent off-road characteristics. In Russia today, the Toyota Hilux pickup truck is available in five trim levels: Standard, Comfort, Elegance, Prestige, Prestige Plus. The 2.5-liter engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission, while the 3-liter diesel engine is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission.

Diesel engine

On Toyota car Hilux equipped with turbocharged diesel engine and direct injection COMMON RAIL models 1KDFTV and 2KDFTV.

Toyota introduced diesel engines of the KD series to the market in 2000. The 1KD-FTV engine has a 3.0 liter (2982 cc) straight-four engine with a variable geometry turbocharger. The dual camshaft timing system is based on a DOHC design with four valves per cylinder, where the cylinder diameter is 96 mm and the piston stroke is 103 mm. Equipped with diesel engine 1KDFTV direct fuel injection D4-D. Control electronic systems implements a new ECU operating on a 32-bit bus. Experts believe that the main problem with the 1KD-FTV engine, and this is confirmed by the experience of its operation, is the injectors. Failure of injectors and the need to replace them are associated with low-quality diesel fuel.

The 2KD-FTV engine is the second generation of the 1KD-FTV engine with a reduced displacement to 2.5 liters. The predecessor of this diesel engine was the 2L. Just like the first generation 2KD-FTV engine, it has 16 valves configured according to the DOHC turbocharger with intercooler. It also uses the D4-D direct injection system. Therefore, in general it can be stated that it is similar to its older brother, with the exception of the cylinder diameter and piston stroke.

Features and reviews

The Toyota Hilux pickup truck with a diesel engine is especially popular among small businesses and fans of outdoor activities outside the city. According to reviews from car owners who use it for these purposes, the Toyota Hilux has good engine performance, especially in combination with automatic transmission transmission At the same time, it is quite economical; when driving around the city, it consumes between 12-14 liters per hundred kilometers (considering the weight of the car, this is not that much). Users report no problems when starting the engine in cold weather. To be fair, it is worth mentioning the disadvantages of operating the Toyota Hilux, the main one of which is expensive maintenance.

Previously, a jeep was considered a purely men's car. Ten years ago, only representatives of the stronger sex dared to drive a huge SUV. But now, women don’t care what kind of car they drive. And the car driven only by men became a pickup truck.

IN Everyday life you won't find best assistant, how this type cars. It is suitable for hunting, fishing and even for transporting furniture. Pickup trucks are positioned as commercial, family and off-road vehicles.

In this material we would like to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the Toyota Hilux. It interested us not only because of its phenomenal popularity among drivers all over the world, but also because its new generation was introduced on May 21 of this year. It happened at a car showroom in Bangkok.

On this moment, the company managed to sell more than 16 million copies. Certainly, we're talking about not about the new generation, which appeared only in Thai salons, but about all seven issues. The sales geography of this car includes 180 countries, and its history began 47 years ago.

Representatives of the company promise that at the beginning of next year the new generation will begin to be sold in South Africa. And this is not strange, because the largest factories where Toyota Hilux is assembled are located in Thailand and South Africa. But when the car will reach us and how much it will cost is still unknown. By the way, according to the calculations of Russian official dealers, the model still holds first place in sales in the segment. Behind last year Russians bought 6,790 copies of Toyota Hilux.

History of Toyota Hilux

The Toyota Hilux first appeared in 1968. This generation was produced until 1972. Then the car was nothing special. It had a regular cab, a short wheelbase and a 1.5-liter gasoline engine. The drive here was rear-wheel drive. After several improvements, engines of 1.9, 1.6 and two liters appeared. Also, engineers increased the wheelbase.

The first generation model was replaced in 1972. These pickups were produced until 1978. The car became a little more comfortable inside and received a new 2.2-liter gasoline engine.

The third generation came out in 1978 and was produced until 1983. A 2.2-liter engine and a couple of wheelbase options to choose from were added. The company tested a fiberglass body, which turned out to be very successful.

The fourth generation came out in 1983. It was produced until 1988. This car became completely different from all other modifications. It received three wheelbase options and a new engine range. Three-liter petrol and 2.4-liter diesel units have become available. Also, instead of the old rigid axle, they began to install an independent suspension. Also, the transmission has changed. It became a four-speed automatic.

The fifth generation was produced from 1988 to 1997. It practically copied its predecessor both in technical terms and in external design. But, a 2.4-liter diesel engine appeared in the engine range. Also, the company has built several conveyors for assembling a pickup truck in different countries peace.

The sixth generation was released from 1997 to 2005. This modification no longer appeared in the USA and Japan, since engineers came up with an analogue for these markets. But in other countries, the pickup truck was only gaining more and more popularity.

The seventh modification was first released in 2004. Now the car is placed in the class of mid-size cars. Two airbags appeared in the cabin, and a 240-horsepower engine began to be installed under the hood. Further, this generation was updated three times, correcting the exterior and technical side of the pickup truck.

And so, in 2015, the history of the eighth generation began. What did it become? Let's take a look below.

Getting to know the Toyota Hilux

As already mentioned, the Toyota Hilux is a purely masculine car. This is probably why engineers and designers of seven generations did not pay enough attention to interior comfort. But in 2015 they outdid themselves. The market is dictating new conditions, and now, without decent interior trim, not a single car will become popular. Even a Toyota Hilux.

Looking inside the pickup truck, you won’t see luxury or expensive Alcantara. But the smooth hard plastic looks quite decent and simple. The seats can be adjusted in two directions, but the steering wheel can only be adjusted in one position. All control buttons are simply huge. They are quite far from each other. Therefore, pressing accuracy is guaranteed here. At the same time, Japanese precision is observed. That is, not a single spare part is skewed and is clearly in its place.

The appearance of the car has been radically updated. It has become more modern. Also, engineers updated the technical side of the pickup truck. Several new engines have appeared. The spring suspension has been completely redone. Another thing worth noting is the new transmission.

The pickup frame's thickness and cross-section have been increased. There are three suspension options, each with its own type of setup. If you drive mainly on asphalt, it is better to choose Comfort. In the case where the car will be used mostly off-road, Heavy duty is offered. And for mixed mode, choose Standard.

The dimensions of the car have been revised. Now its length has been increased by 75 millimeters, its width by 20 millimeters. The height and wheelbase remain the same. The towing trailer can reach 3.5 tons, and the load is 1240 kilograms.

The salon has now become spacious and comfortable. It is quite functional, as the seats are adjustable according to your wishes. The rear bench can seat three people. The doorways both at the back and at the front are almost the same.

A Toyota Hilux with a turbodiesel was provided for a test drive. This modification is the most powerful in the line, and it produces 171 horsepower with a torque of 360 Nm.

If you think about it, the figure is not very impressive. But, oddly enough, it is quite suitable for driving on the highway and off-road. It's a little slow to pick up speed. Although, after 80 kilometers per hour, everything changes.

On the track the car behaves very stable and measured. She's quite predictable. But, on wet asphalt, the axle of the Toyota Hilux is slightly shifted. In this case, the stabilization system intervenes almost immediately, and the situation is corrected. Also, we realized one little trick. If you put a load of 200 kilograms in the trunk, then you don’t have to be afraid of skidding.

On uneven roads you can drive at fairly high speeds. Even in the complete absence of asphalt, 80 - 120 kilometers per hour is not a problem. This is enough a pleasant surprise, since the car weighs about two tons.

The pickup truck's geometric cross-country ability is fine. Therefore, the car feels comfortable off-road. The rear overhang here is simply huge, but the front overhang is practically non-existent. While driving, I didn’t come across a single hole or rise that was beyond the vehicle’s control. Rear-wheel drive overcomes mud up to 20 meters deep. But, under no circumstances stop. Then it will be difficult to get out. And in this case, the car is equipped with towing loops.

The side can open 90 degrees. This will greatly increase the length of the loading platform. Its standard dimensions are 1.5 meters.

When driving around the city, gasoline consumption ranges from 10 to 11 liters per hundred. But, if a massive trailer is installed on a pickup truck, then the consumption increases. In any case, these figures are very unexpected for such a large car.

The only problem we encountered in the road was parking. In narrow yards, you can easily crash into a car standing next to you. Although, a rear light will help you at night, and a rear view camera during the day.

Technical data Toyota Hilux

The eighth generation Toyota Hilux is equipped with a 2.8-liter engine. It develops power of 177 horsepower with a torque of 450 Nm. For our market, this configuration option is not provided. Here you can only find a unit with 171 horsepower and 360 Nm.

The transmission here is a six-speed automatic. The seventh generation of the car had a five-speed transmission. The drive here, of course, is full. We were very interested in the ESTEC system. It represents fuel economy with thermal combustion.

Brief characteristics of Toyota Hilux

  • body: pickup;
  • number of seats: 5;
  • number of doors: 5;
  • curb weight: 1900 kilograms;
  • dimensions: 5255 mm in length, 1835 mm in width and 1810 mm in height;

At the eighth generation Toyota The Hilux has far fewer shortcomings than its predecessor. But, still, they exist. To begin with, it is worth noting that the rear axle skids when cornering. Also, I didn’t really like the interior decoration.
But, to justify the designers and engineers, it is worth saying that the cabin has become much more comfortable than it was before 2015. Just as before, attention was paid to functionality, and certainly not to the convenience of the driver.

Among the advantages, it is necessary to note the cross-country ability of the pickup truck. In order to test its driving performance, it was placed in various conditions. It was desert and mountain slopes. The car showed its best side everywhere. Strength and endurance are combined here.

The interior and sound insulation deserve special praise.

The car is very reliable and durable. If you need a comfortable and passable pickup truck that is also functional, you simply must turn your attention to the Toyota Hilux. Based on the test drive results, we give the car 4.9 points out of a possible five.
