Possible options for how to unscrew the base of the light bulb from the cartridge. How to unscrew the base of a broken lamp from the cartridge How to remove the base from the cartridge

Suspended ceilings with built-in lights have become widely used in modern interiors. All this elegant design is attached to the natural ceiling of the room using frames made of wood or metal. The suspended ceiling has the function of lighting and hides the flaws of the conventional ceiling.

From the draft ceiling to the stretch ceiling, there is a space of about ten centimeters, and electrical wiring and lighting fixtures are placed in it. To install light sources, the second ceiling has thoughtful holes. From the side of the room, the lighting set is presented in the form of a decorated ring.

A cartridge with a lamp and springs for fastening are attached to the body from the inside, their task is to hold the lamp. Inserting a halogen bulb into a false ceiling is not so difficult, the main thing is to connect it correctly.

Varieties

To solve the problem of removing a damaged light bulb, you do not need to call a specialist. The process of replacing a light bulb is not that complicated. You should first get acquainted with the basic principles of operation of lamps in a false ceiling.

Lamps have different power, allocate different amount heat, differ in energy consumption, price, service life.

Luminaires are installed on the suspended ceiling, in which several types of lamps are used:

  • Familiar to all incandescent lamps. Currently not very popular due to inefficiency, although they have the advantage of being able to work at any temperature and humidity.

  • Halogen providing very bright illumination. Their advantage is durability, efficiency, compactness.

  • LED. They are considered the most economical, as a result of which they have become the most in demand.

The order of unscrewing each type of lamp is different, so before removing them it is important to find out what type of light source is.

Since you will have to replace light bulbs more than once, it will not be superfluous to get acquainted with the constituent elements and remember their names. All lamps have a protective cover, main body and special clamps.

But in their design there are other parts, knowing about which, it is easier to dismantle any kind of light bulb:

  • a case invisible from the outside, because it is located in a space under the ceiling, a wire and a cartridge are hidden in it;
  • spring type antennae, serve to hold the lamps and fix them on the ceiling surface;
  • a protective cover made of plastic or glass, also serves as a diffuser and protects the entire set from dusting;
  • spring ring for fixing the protection cover.

In order to remove the light bulb, it is not necessary to remove the lamp completely. You usually only have to remove the cover and ring. light bulbs have different ways mounts, so when choosing a new lamp, be sure to consider the type of its base.

Plinth types

There are lamps with a threaded base, like incandescent lamps. In this case, normal twisting is sufficient.

Other types are very popular:

  • lamps with a pair of pins, they make a click when fixed;
  • lamps fixed by turning;
  • there is a type of "tablet" lamps, it is more often used in suspended ceilings.

Withdrawal options

The first step when unscrewing the light bulb is to turn off the electricity, that is, turn off the power from the electrical panel. Remember: you need to not only turn off a particular light bulb, but turn off all the lights. Not every one of us knows that it is necessary to turn off the phase, and the switch goes to zero. You shouldn't put yourself at risk.

Next, you need to remove the lamp stopper ring, it serves as a retainer. To remove, it is enough to press the antennae, the lamp easily comes out of its housing and hangs on the contact cartridge. Now you just need to pull it towards you or turn it to the left (depending on what type of lamp) and pull it out.

Lamps can be without retaining rings. In this case, you have to remove the entire lamp from the nest.

The easiest way to unscrew the so-called "pills": with one hand, slightly turn the lamp back, wait for a click, pull down and pull it out. The rest of the lamp stays in place.

Light bulbs with E14 and E27 cartridges are even easier to maintain: they are replaced according to the familiar scheme with an ordinary standard cartridge. We unscrew, as always, the old bulbs, and just twist the new lamp back. Here it is only important to choose the size for 14 and 17.

When replacing any light bulbs, pay attention to the type and size of the base. When unscrewing halogen lamps, they should not be touched with bare hands, they easily leave marks that give a dim light in the room. In addition, lamps touched with greasy fingers burn out quickly.

This is especially true for models with a G4 or G9 base. They have a special design - the lamp body does not have additional fasteners, so to remove the bulb, you just need to pull it down.

When working with halogen products, do not forget to wear gloves or hold the lamps with napkins. If they are not at hand, wrap the bottom with ordinary paper tape. No contamination of halogen lamps should be allowed.

For easy removal of the light bulb, you can completely dismantle the lamp body from the false ceiling by gently prying the decorative circle with a screwdriver. Then the inner part opens and you can easily bend the clamping pins and pull the case out of the suspended structure. You can also remove the cover to replace it.

To work with LED lamps, you need to know that in many of them lamps and fixtures are one. So, it is necessary to remove the lamp completely. It is not in the ceiling film, but has a mounting platform. If you carefully bend the lamp, two expanding springs are visible - these are the fastening elements. When removing the lamp, they should be held by hand, otherwise the ceiling can be easily damaged. The springs must be bent inward, pulled towards you and pull out the lamp. As you can see, there is nothing complicated. Most importantly, follow simple rules. Although LED bulbs the most durable, sometimes they also have to be changed.

Having unscrewed the light bulbs in false ceilings at least once, this can be easily dealt with in subsequent cases. But if the lamp or the lamp itself is damaged, the work is complicated by the risk of cuts, pricks with small pieces. Professional advice and tried and tested folk techniques will come to the rescue.

For this work, pliers with pointed ends are useful. They need to grab the metal part of the lamp and slowly turn it in the opposite direction until the lamp is removed.

You can roll a ball out of electrical tape with the sticky side out, attach to the center, press lightly so that the bulb sticks to the ball. After that, it will spin freely.

And the weak half of humanity - women, solves the problem with a raw potato: you need to cut it into two halves, press one of them on a worthless light bulb and calmly unscrew it.

The lamp can not only burst, but also get stuck. It seems to stick to the cartridge, and just like that you can’t unscrew it. In such cases, it all depends on the structure of the lamp. If the model allows, both the cartridge and the light bulb are unscrewed. Then it's easy to remove it.

And if the design of the lamp does not allow such a reception, the light bulb can only be broken. But before that, you should wrap it with a cloth to protect it from splinters. The remaining base must be disconnected with pliers and pulled out.

If the LED lamp bursts or sticks, it is easier to replace it, since it changes with the entire body.

If a chandelier is hung on a false ceiling, to replace the light bulb in it, it is necessary to remove the entire device.

To do this, proceed as follows:

  • first remove the cap covering the hook on which the chandelier hangs;
  • put your hand in the gap under it;
  • take the chandelier in the place of its attachment and carefully remove it, while pulling out the electrical wire;
  • disconnect the wire by removing the insulation.

The chandelier has been removed from the ceiling. If it is heavy, before descending from the stepladder, you should call someone for help. Now it is easy to unscrew and change the burnt out light bulb.

IN next video you can visually see the options for unscrewing the light bulbs from the cartridge.

Possible problems

When replacing lamps, you may encounter the following problems:

  • Mustaches beat on the fingers. If they are too strong, removing the lamp may damage the ceiling. To solve this problem, it is enough to hold the springs firmly so as not to damage the fingers and the ceiling. The light source must not be allowed to hang on the film, it is necessary to ensure that the springs get into the fastening ring behind the film.
  • At one time, the workers who installed the ceiling could leave bare parts of the wire behind it. To eliminate this problem, even after a complete blackout of the house (apartment), it is better to wait a few minutes before starting work. Otherwise, there is a risk of getting an electric shock.

Plastic sockets for lamps with an E27 base are usually collapsible, they can look like this:

Photo 3 Photo 4

To connect the wires to the molded plastic socket, simply insert the wires into the appropriate holes on the back of the socket. As you can see in photo 1, you can connect two wires to each of the contacts, if you wish. If the wires are not cast, but with a braided core, then it is better to solder the ends of such wires.

In principle, wires are also connected to collapsible plastic cartridges, only in order to connect the wires, you must first remove the bottom of the cartridge. The bottom is attached to the body of the cartridge with latches. To snap off the bottom, you need to insert a simple screwdriver first into one groove and push harder so that the bottom latch moves away:

Photo 5

and then holding, press the first latch on the second latch. When the bottom is detached, you will see the contacts of the cartridge, two round holes on both sides, behind the holes are spring-loaded contacts:

Photo 6

To insert or pull out the wire, you need to press with a simple screwdriver on the clamp springs (oblong holes closer to the center of the cartridge). Before connecting the wires, you need to put the bottom of the cartridge on the wires. Further mounting options for the cartridge may be different, but in principle everything is the same as for carbolite cartridges , for this there is a corresponding thread in the bottom of the cartridges.

How to unscrew a stuck or broken lamp

To dismantle the lamp - it would seem that it could be easier. However, even in such a case, there are a number of tricks with which even a deformed lighting element (lamp) can be removed independently without the involvement of specialists. That is why we would like to clarify how to unscrew a stuck or broken lamp so as not to damage the lighting device itself (chandelier, wall lamp, etc.).

Safety first

Of course, before unscrewing the lamp from the cartridge, it is necessary to provide for a number of preparatory operations in order to protect yourself from electric shock. That is, at the initial stage, the place of work should be completely de-energized and all necessary measures should be taken, eliminating the possibility of erroneous voltage supply.

Moreover, the voltage should be removed by turning off the circuit breaker in order to guarantee the complete absence of electricity in the network. In addition, you should take care of a solid foundation from which technical operations will be performed, that is, install a table or stepladder.

If the reader is interested in information about the choice energy saving lamps, you can check it out here.

Causes of sticking and deformation of lamps

It is quite difficult to unequivocally answer the question of what can cause the deformation of the lamp. Indeed, this may be related to poor quality electrical network(voltage drops), and with the operational characteristics of the lighting element itself (poor quality of components, expiration of service life, etc.).

Whereas the reasons for the sticking of the lamp base to the electric cartridge are more obvious and are associated with not ensuring proper electrical contact at the junction (screwing). In view of what, when installing household lamps, it is advisable to be guided by the following recommendations:

  • Take the lamp only with clean hands, excluding the presence of greasy stains;
  • Screw the lamp tightly into the existing socket;
  • Use lamps that match technical specifications lighting device;

How to unscrew the lamp

A big problem for the owner of his own property is the removal of a burst electric lamp(nothing to take on), which is why it is this option that requires detailed consideration.

How to safely unscrew a light bulb from a false ceiling?

The most common method of unscrewing a broken light bulb is to use power tools such as pliers or round nose pliers. Whereas the very methodology of work boils down to the fact that the base remaining in the cartridge is bursting from the inside with the sponges of the tool, after which the entire remaining part is unscrewed counterclockwise.

Or, sponges should hook the extreme edge of the base (if it protrudes) and try to unscrew the remains of the lamp in this way.

However, when resorting to removing a broken lamp in this way, it should be borne in mind that it may first be necessary to remove glass residues, which involves the use of protective devices(glasses, gloves, tools with insulated handles).

Sometimes any suitable accessory can be used as pliers: a spool of thread, a screwdriver handle, a tightly rolled paper roll, and even soap. The main condition is that he can open the plinth from the inside, so that it can turn together with an impromptu instrument. And, of course, preference in this case should be given exclusively to dielectrics.

Based on the experience of many home electricians, it can be noted that even ordinary PET containers can help in the process of unscrewing a broken (burst) lamp. Why should the neck of the bottle be heated until softened (for example, with a lighter), and then fix the neck on the base for 10 - 15 seconds. When the PET container cools down and hardens, it will not be difficult to unscrew the remains of the lamp.

Radical ways to extract the lamp

If none of the above methods has worked and the remains of the lighting element are still inside the cartridge, then it may even be necessary to replace the latter. An alternative to this event may be a radical option, which involves crushing the base and then removing it. Moreover, in this case, tools with thin sponges (for example, round-nose pliers) may be required. And the technique itself is associated with a high probability of damage to the cartridge, which is why such work should be done with extreme caution.

Considering all of the above, we can say that unscrewing a stuck lamp on your own is not so difficult, the main thing is to follow the standard recommendations.

How to unscrew a light bulb

The need to decide how to unscrew the light bulb regularly arises for each of us. Do not consider this work unworthy of attention.

How to remove a light bulb from a socket if it is broken

It can be easily dealt with only if there is no damage and the light bulb is in an easily accessible place. But sometimes you need to use ingenuity to replace a burned-out item.

We unscrew the light bulb in the suspended ceiling

Currently, hinged structures can be considered the most popular design option for the ceiling. They are able to completely transform the interior of the room, make it more spectacular, original. One of the advantages of such structures is the ability to hide in them various communications. Particularly attractive is the ability to equip built-in lights. Such sources can be equipped with various types of lamps:

  • Standard
  • Fluorescent
  • Halogen
  • LED

The design of built-in lamps is mostly of the same type. Therefore, it is enough to get to know common elements to understand how to replace standard or energy-saving light bulbs if needed.

The main components of the design are:

In spotlights, halogen bulbs are most often installed, which have to be changed no more than 1 time in three years. If it is necessary to make a replacement, you need to turn off the electricity in the room. First, the ring that fixes the lamp is removed. Then the plastic cover is dismantled, the burnt out light bulb is unscrewed from the cartridge and a new one is installed. In some built-in sources, the light bulb is held with pins. In this case, it is gently inserted with a slight pressure. If there was a click, the bulb took its place.

Replacement must be done carefully, given that the ceiling material can be easily damaged. Experts recommend screwing in a new halogen bulb with cloth gloves or using a dry cloth. It is noted that in this case it will last longer.

How to unscrew a light bulb if it burst

It is not easy to safely remove a light bulb if it is not just burned out, but burst. There is a serious risk of cutting yourself, dropping small fragments on the floor. There are several professional and folk tips to remove a burst element.

In unscrewing a damaged light bulb, pliers with pointed tips can be of great help. They need to be fixed on the metal part and gently rotated counterclockwise.

You can unscrew a burst light bulb with a ball twisted from electrical tape with the sticky side out. It needs to be attached to the center and pressed a little. Carefully unscrew the glued bulb.

Housewives cope with the problem with the help of raw potatoes. Half of a root crop is pressed against a broken lamp. The edges of the glasses cut into the pulp, which will allow it to be unscrewed.

Unscrew the light bulb if it is stuck

Sometimes the light bulb “sticks” to the cartridge during operation, and it is not possible to unscrew it in the usual way. The method depends on the design of the lamp. In some models, it is possible to unscrew the bulb and cartridge at the same time. After that, it will be easier to remove the burned-out element.

If this method cannot be applied, you will have to break the light bulb with a hard object. First, it must be wrapped in a cloth so that the glass does not scatter. After that, carefully crush the base with pliers. It will detach from the cartridge and unscrew.

An attractive and economical option are LED lamps for the home. It is recommended to change these burned-out elements together with the case.

If you want to find a way to safely unscrew the light bulb, replace it, you need to remember that the room should be de-energized before that and check the absence of electricity with a special detector.

What to do if the light bulb burned out, and when you start to unscrew it, the bulb comes off and the base remains in the cartridge? This is a typical malfunction that is often found in old incandescent lamps. We will tell you how to unscrew a broken light bulb from a cartridge.

The easiest option is to turn off the electricity in the apartment, take pliers with thin noses and try to unscrew the stuck plinth. And you can do this operation without turning off the electricity. To do this, take an empty plastic bottle, unscrew the cork from it, and carefully melt the edges of the neck with a lighter until soft. Just don't touch it with your hands. Readiness will be visible to the eye. Now it remains to insert this melted neck into the base, hold for twenty seconds and calmly unscrew the broken light bulb from the cartridge.

Keep in mind that if the electric lamp burns out, the machine that feeds the light line of the apartment may turn off. If this happens, then the machine must be turned on again. In this case, you can immediately see the burnt bulb. It is worse when the electrodes close in the base and the machine will not turn on. In this case, first try turning off all the switches in the apartment, since the malfunction most likely occurred in one of the working lamps. Then we unscrew from the cartridges and check all the bulbs. We replace the burnt one and turn on the machine. Well, did you turn it on this time? The described procedure is long, but safe. By the way, when you turn on the "suspicious" light bulb, you should not look at it. Turning away will protect your eyes from possible explosion flasks. With closures, it is not uncommon and this happens.

It happens that a closed light bulb cannot be unscrewed from the cartridge. This can happen when the base sticks to the cartridge contacts. How to unscrew a stuck light bulb? You should not do this yourself, since the wires connected to the cartridge can, moreover, burn out when closed. Call the best electrician from the house management. The master will do everything as it should and replace, if necessary, a damaged cartridge with a new one.

Well, if you urgently need to give light, then you can try to unscrew the burnt bulb yourself. To do this, first of all, you should turn off the machine. In the course of any work with electrical wiring in the apartment, one should not be limited to turning off only the switch. A phase can be preserved on the cartridge and if the luminaire body is grounded, an electric shock will occur. Therefore, always turn off the machine and do not forget to check the bare wires with an indicator.

Well, a small educational program on safety when working on low-voltage equipment has been carried out. Now back to the non-retractable light bulb. Her glass flask will have to be broken. Make it more convenient by putting on a light bulb plastic bag and hit her with something heavy.

How to unscrew a broken light bulb from a cartridge

Then, with wire cutters, we cling to the edge of the base, bite it and, turning the wire cutters, wind the metal onto the jaws of the tool. The metal is quite thin and will tear. Then we repeat the procedure and pull out the base piece by piece. It is necessary to work with wire cutters carefully so as not to spoil inner part cartridge. The fact is that the light bulb is screwed into a metal insert located inside the cartridge.

To a place to recall one more encountered problem. Sometimes, unscrewing the light bulb from the cartridge, it spins with it, because the cartridge is not firmly fixed in the chandelier body. In this case, the wires connected to the cartridge are twisted together, can break and lead to short circuit. Therefore, in order to unscrew the bulb correctly, you need to follow the cartridge and, if it rotates, fix it with the fingers of your free hand.

Burnout of lamps installed in a suspended ceiling occurs when the backlight is used intensively or installation technologies are violated: loose fixation, non-compliance with wiring connection standards, work without the use of special protective gloves, etc. But thanks to the well-thought-out equipment and the arrangement of spotlights, it is not difficult to remove the lamp and replace it with a new one.

The following types of lamps are used to illuminate the ceiling:

  • Incandescent;
  • Halogen;
  • LED;
  • Luminescent.
Various types lamps and fasteners to the cartridge.

They differ in power output, heat, economical energy consumption, cost and service life. Regardless of the type of light bulb used in the design of the luminaire, based on the established GOST standards, the package includes similar parts, knowledge of the structure of which facilitates the dismantling process:

  • The housing, which is located in the inter-ceiling space and is hidden from view, contains wiring and a cartridge;
  • Spring clamps of the "antennae" type, which securely hold the light bulb in one position and fix it flush with the ceiling surface;
  • A glass or plastic cover that performs a protective and light-scattering function, protects the lamp from dust and moisture penetration;
  • A fixing ring that holds the protective cover on the decorative outer formwork.

When a light bulb burns out, not the entire lamp, but part of it, is subject to replacement. To dismantle for this, you only need a fixing ring and plastic cover. However, during operation, the type of lamp to be replaced and the method of attachment to the housing cause difficulties. Fasteners of lamps to the cartridge differ in the form:

  • Threads - a standard type of fixation, more often installed on conventional incandescent lamps;
  • Pins (2 metal guides) that pass through a special groove in the cartridge and with light pressure, if connected correctly, a characteristic click is heard;
  • 90 degree swivel latch.

Removing the lamp without removing the housing

Replacement process

To dismantle the light bulb without removing the case from the ceiling, follow the following instructions:

  • Turn off the power supply;
  • Remove the retaining ring and protective cover;
  • Unscrew the burnt out bulb counterclockwise;
  • Insert a new one in its place, of the same power and model as the previous one, so that the lighting remains uniform at all light points;
  • Treat the bulb and lamp contacts before installing it in the cartridge with alcohol or window cleaner, which will extend the life by removing dust and excess organic particles;
  • Close the cartridge with a lid, fix with a clamping ring;
  • It is important not to touch the lamp with bare hands, it is recommended to use a piece of soft textile or special assembly gloves for these purposes.

Another way to replace the light bulb is to completely dismantle the luminaire body from the hole in the false ceiling by prying off the decorative formwork with a flat screwdriver. This provides easier access to wiring, terminals and transformer. The lamp is inserted by bending the clamping antennae and placing the body in a suspended structure. In the same way, the ceiling is changed.

Dismantling the lamp with the housing

All work is carried out slowly, carefully, trying not to touch the sheathing of the structure, so as not to damage it, leave no marks, dents, or cuts if dismantling is performed next to the tension fabric.

High-quality replacement, care of the lamps by cleaning them with alcohol solutions every six months will extend the life of the fixtures, make the ceiling lighting effective for a long period of time. You can see an example of dismantling and the process of installing a new spotlight on the video.

Another cause of burnout

Another reason to replace a light bulb is a blown transformer or power supply. This happens as a result of frequent power surges or improperly selected device power. Ideally, the transformer is connected to each installed lamp separately, and the fixtures are connected in parallel. This will protect the device from overloading and from burning out all the lamps at a time - the principle of a chain reaction.

Reinstallation tips:

  • It is better to use a low-power electronic transformer for each individual lamp, it is light and compact, suitable for mounting on stretch and false ceilings without overloading the structure with its weight;
  • The input voltage of the transformer must be 220 V, the output must be equal to the power of the installed lamp;
Connected transformer
  • Install the transformer at a distance of 20 cm or more from the lamps so that the heat radiated from the lamp does not damage the device, but not more than 3 m from them, otherwise the resistance of the wire will increase, which will lead to a short circuit.

The wiring is connected, observing the poles and phases. An indicator screwdriver will help with this.

Almost every room in our home uses light bulbs that help to perform any work in the dark or simply makes spending time in the room much more enjoyable. But there are situations when the lamp burns out and breaks. In such a situation, you get not only an unpleasant scattering of fragments on the floor, but also the remains of a light bulb in the cartridge. Most of the inhabitants who are faced with this immediately look for a way to unscrew a burst light bulb from a cartridge.

Safety first

The first thing to do in such a situation is to ensure the safe execution of work. Do not forget that the lighting device is powered from a 220 V network, and in a broken lamp, current-carrying elements become bare. Therefore, before approaching the cartridge, be sure to remove the voltage.

It should be noted that simply pressing the switch that turned on this particular chandelier is not always enough. Since the switching device may not break the phase circuit, but break zero. This option is only acceptable in situations where you have an indicator screwdriver to verify that there is no potential. Or if you unscrew the light bulb from the cartridge in dielectric gloves.

by the most the best option is to turn off the introductory machine in the apartment. If you have a sectioned power supply by rooms or consumers, you can turn off the desired lamp with a separate machine, leaving all other nodes energized. In the event that the power supply of the entire apartment is turned off, please note that there will be no lighting and there will be nothing to connect to. Therefore, take a portable flashlight or light a candle in advance so as not to cut yourself on the sharp edges of a broken light bulb in the dark.

Ways to remove a broken light bulb

There are several ways in which you can remove the remnants of the light bulb and base from the socket. Choose one specific of them should be based on the current situation and the funds available to you.

Figure 1: light bulb construction

Method number 1. The use of pliers.

The most common way to unscrew a broken light bulb from a cartridge is with pliers, thin-nosed pliers, or other derivatives of this tool. But, this method is relevant in situations where, after breaking the glass bulb, the base protrudes slightly beyond the cartridge, otherwise there is a high probability of damaging the cartridge itself. And you will have to change not only the light bulb, but also the cartridge.

The whole procedure consists of the following actions:

Method number 2. Disassembly of the cartridge.

The best way is to disassemble the cartridge, it allows you to safely remove the stuck base, but this option is not suitable for all models of lamps. Those in which the cartridge is not removable or it is closed by the elements of the chandelier do not allow you to unscrew the burst one by this method. Structurally collapsible models consist of a housing and a contact plate, the housing can be divided into two parts.

To use this method you will need:

  • Turn off the voltage at the entrance to the apartment;
  • Unscrew the case into two halves - as a result, you should have contacts with the lid, and unscrew the shirt with the base and the remains of the light bulb;
  • After that, you will see that the base is twisted into a sleeve, if it has become attached to it, it should be tucked with thin-nosed pliers, a screwdriver or lightly hit from the back;
  • Unscrewing the remnants of the light bulb when the cartridge is in your hands is much easier.

Method number 3. Plastic bottle.

If due to design features lamp or ceiling lamp, you cannot get the tool to the fragments of the light bulb and remove them, an ordinary plastic bottle and a lighter will help you. The entire extraction process consists of the following steps:

Method number 4. Champagne cork.

This method is suitable for those situations when, when the light bulb was destroyed, the leg (stengel) also fell out of it, or it can be pulled out painlessly.

Rice. 5: Remove leg

As a result, the rest of the bulb will unscrew along with the cork. It should be noted that if glass fragments remain at the edges, they must be removed so as not to damage the fingers during twisting.

Method number 5. We use potatoes.

Almost every home has fresh potatoes. This method is suitable for those cases where sharp glass fragments remain at the edges. Turn off the voltage at the input board first.

You only need to cut the potato in half or in another ratio so that the rest has a cut and fits comfortably in your hand.

Rice. 7. Cut the potatoes

Along the cut line, the potato is carefully put on the leg and planted on glass fragments so that the vegetable sits tightly.

Rice. Step 8: Put a Potato on a Light Bulb

It is then used as a handle to unscrew the remains of the bulb from the socket.

Rice. 9: bulb in potato

It should be noted that it is not necessary to pre-wash or soak the potato. Since it will become slippery and a tightly seated base may not succumb. The potato itself is already wet at the cut point, so after twisting, be sure to wipe all surfaces and wait for them to dry before screwing in the light bulb, reapply voltage and turn on the light.

Another potato can be replaced with a piece of laundry soap, but, depending on its consistency and shape, a bar may not be suitable to unscrew a broken light bulb.

Put on gloves and goggles for safety. Always wear thick gloves to avoid cuts from broken glass. Better yet, wear them over rubber or protective gloves. This is how you protect yourself from electric current, in case the electricity turns on while you are working. Glasses should protect your eyes from small pieces of glass. This is especially important if the light bulb is fixed somewhere under the ceiling.

Remove the pieces from the floor. They can be removed with a broom, cloth or vacuum cleaner. Collect the pieces with a dustpan and throw them in the trash. Smaller fragments can be collected with high density paper or cardboard. And if the pieces are so small that they look like dust, you can pick them up with duct tape.

Substitute an object so that the remaining glass fragments fall on it, and not on the floor. If splinters can still fall from the light bulb or if it is fixed under the ceiling, hold this object under it and much less glass will fall on the floor, which will greatly facilitate your cleaning.

Unplug the light if it is connected to a power outlet. If the light bulb is broken, then all you have to do to turn off the power is to unplug the power cord from the outlet.

If the light bulb is fixed directly on the wall or under the ceiling, then turn off the power supply in this part of your house. Find an electrical panel with fuses or circuit breakers and turn off the power in the part of the house where your light bulb is located. If you have a fuse on the panel, then unscrew it, and if the switch, then change its position to “off”.

  • If the panel does not indicate which part of the house each of the fuses or switches is responsible for, then it is better to turn everything off. Even if you have several electrical panels at home, you should not think that the one that is closer to the room with the light bulb is responsible for it.
  • If there is no natural light in a room with a light bulb, then find a flashlight in advance.
  • Try unscrewing the base counterclockwise. Hands at the same time should always be in thick gloves that can protect you from cuts. And rubber gloves will protect you from electric shocks, which are unlikely, but still can happen even when the power is turned off due to improper wiring.

    Use pointed pliers to extra power and accuracy. With them, you can safely wrap around the plinth. With the help of pliers, you can apply more force when unscrewing the light bulb than if you just unscrew it with your fingers. Always turn counterclockwise.

    Try placing the ends of the pliers on the inside of the plinth if you can't wrap around the plinth from the outside. Spread the ends of the pliers so that they rest against the inner walls of the base and twist counterclockwise.

    If the above methods did not work, take a screwdriver. Insert the end of a small flat head screwdriver between the socket and the chuck. And with a smooth, gentle effort, bend the edge of the base inward, just enough so that you can grab it well with pliers. Try spinning now.
