Orthodox leaflet profanity 4 letters. Offensive, swear words; swearing Scripture on the Sin of Profanity

There is an opinion in the world community that it is impossible to imagine a Russian person without swearing. People from almost all social strata use foul language in our country. You can often hear it from TV screens, on the radio and even in kindergarten from quite small child. Most of us treat profanity quite normally, considering it just a means of expressing our emotions. However, in fact, foul language carries a serious destructive force, which, according to scientists, can lead to the degeneration of an entire nation. Moreover, this process is quite difficult to stop, because it proceeds unnoticed, covering an ever-increasing circle of the Russian-speaking population of the planet. Today we will try to explain to readers why you should not swear under any life circumstances.

Before you try to understand why you can’t swear in principle, you need to find out what falls under the “swearing” category. If you carefully read the definition of this word in different dictionaries, it becomes clear that swearing is one of the coarsest and most ancient forms of profanity in Rus' and related languages.

Based on this definition, we can conclude that swear words were actively used by our ancestors. Most likely, you are now thinking that since your great-grandfathers and great-great-grandfathers sometimes allowed themselves to swear with strong words, then there is nothing wrong with it. But don't rush to conclusions. Perhaps in ancient times everything was not so simple with profanity.

The history of the mat

Many people are so accustomed to profanity in their everyday speech that they don’t even think about why they can’t swear and where they came from in our culture. However, scientists have been interested in profanity for a very long time, and they have been studying this issue for decades.

Initially, there was a widespread belief that mating came to the Slavs from the Mongols and Turkic tribes. But a more thorough analysis of these languages showed that there was nothing like swearing in them. Therefore, it is worth looking for the roots of foul language in more ancient times.

Ethnopsychologists were very surprised by the similarity of Russian swearing to the spells of the ancient Sumerians. Many words were almost identical, which led scientists to think about the sacred meaning of profanity. And, as it turned out, they were on the right track. After much research, it was revealed that swearing is nothing more than an appeal to pagan spirits, demons and devils. It was widely used in pagan cults and rituals, but even then only special people who used their power to achieve certain goals could use foul language. Still don't understand why you can't swear? Then you should read the article to the end.

Many words that we use today several hundred times a day are the names of ancient demons, while others are a terrible curse sent in ancient times only on the heads of enemies. That is, using swear words every day, we consciously address dark forces and call on them for help. And they are always happy to provide it, and then present a bill for payment, which may be unaffordable for many.

It is noteworthy that even our ancestors were clearly aware of the harm of swear words. They didn't need to explain why they shouldn't swear in A common person could use profanity no more than ten times a year and only in the most exceptional cases. At the same time, everyone understood that retribution for this weakness would be inevitable.

Of course, to many our explanation will seem like a fairy tale. After all, modern man believes only in facts and figures. But well, we are ready to consider this issue from a scientific point of view.

Scientific experiments with profanity

Also in Soviet times scientists became interested in how the word affects living organisms. Since childhood we have known a lot folk proverbs and sayings to this effect. For example, “a kind word is pleasant for a cat” or “a word is not hard, but people die from it.” This should teach us to be careful about what comes out of our mouths. However, most people take their speech extremely frivolously. And, according to scientists, it is in vain.

Research institutes in our country have been testing the hypothesis for several years about how strongly a word can affect the psychophysical state of a living organism. The experiments were carried out on seeds intended for planting. Three experimental groups were created. The first was exposed to the most selective swearing for several hours a day, the second “listened” to the usual swearing, and the third was told only words of gratitude and prayers. To the surprise of scientists, the seeds on which the mat fell showed a germination rate of only forty-nine percent. In the second group, the numbers were higher - fifty-three percent. But the seeds from the third group sprouted by ninety-six percent!

It is not for nothing that our ancestors knew that in no case should one approach cooking food and planting crops with foul language. In this case, you should not even expect a good result. But how exactly does swearing work? This process was revealed to the fullest by the Russian geneticist Pyotr Goryaev.

The impact of profanity on the human body

We think many of us have read the Bible and remember that “in the beginning was the Word.” But most people didn’t even think about what exactly was contained in this important line. But Pyotr Goryaev managed to reveal this secret.

After many years of research that he conducted in Russian and foreign scientific institutes, it was proven that our DNA chain can be represented as a meaningful text consisting of words grouped with a special meaning. The scientist himself called this phenomenon “the speech of the Creator.” Thus, Goryaev confirmed that with our speech we can both heal ourselves and destroy ourselves. He claims that thought forms, and especially spoken words, are perceived by the genetic apparatus through special electromagnetic channels. Therefore, they can heal and support us, and in other cases literally explode DNA, causing certain disorders and mutations. And checkmate is the most destructive force that exists. Petr Goryaev believes that a frivolous attitude towards profanity leads not only to cultural, but also to physical degeneration of the nation.

Surprisingly, doctors also partially confirm Goryaev’s hypothesis. They have long noticed that stroke patients or patients after severe traumatic brain injuries who lose the ability to speak can quite freely pronounce long sentences entirely consisting of swear words. This means that at this moment in the body, signals pass through completely different nerve chains and endings.

The opinion of the clergy

Why can't you swear? Orthodoxy has always had a unanimous opinion on this matter. Any churchgoer can explain that profanity, first of all, is a sin that is displeasing to God. With abusive words we console the evil one and call on demons for help. And they never miss an opportunity to put a person in an even more difficult and difficult situation. Thus, we move further and further away from the Lord and cannot fully open our hearts to him.

In addition, many swear words are a real and terrible insult to Mother of God and everything female generally. This is why girls should never swear. As future mothers, they should carry only a bright program within themselves, and not be “stained” with curses and blasphemous words. And this includes all swearing and any abusive speech.

Priests always try to convey that the word is God’s special gift to man. With it, he connects himself with the space surrounding him with invisible threads, and it depends only on the personality itself what exactly will happen to it. Often, even believers allow foul language, and then are surprised that troubles, misfortunes, poverty and illness come to their home. The Church sees a direct connection in this and advises carefully controlling your speech even in moments of intense anger.

The influence of swearing on expectant mothers

Scientists claim that foul language has the ability to spoil a person’s health and condition not only in a momentary situation, but also completely change his genetic program laid down by nature. Swearing seems to knock out certain links from the DNA or completely change them. Any spoken word represents a certain wave genetic program, which in most cases does not have retroactive effect. Therefore, pregnant women must especially carefully monitor not only their own speech, but also the society in which they find themselves. After all, the influence of swearing extends not only to those who use foul language themselves, but also to that category that can be called “passive listeners.” Even one person in a group using profanity can cause great harm to everyone present.

If you still don’t understand why pregnant women shouldn’t swear, then you should turn to the latest scientific research. They became interested in the data that in some countries cerebral palsy and Down syndrome are extremely rare, while in others they are regularly included in the statistics of newborn diseases. It turned out that in countries where there is no such thing as “swearing”, there are much fewer congenital childhood diseases than in countries where foul language is the natural everyday speech of almost every person.

Children and swearing

Many adults do not consider it necessary to think about why it is forbidden to swear in front of children. They believe that children do not remember or understand anything yet, and therefore will not perceive profanity as something harmful. But this position is fundamentally wrong.

Mat is very dangerous for children of any age. First of all, he is a conductor of violence in the life of a child. Foul language most often becomes a companion to fights and any kind of aggression. Therefore, children very quickly become saturated with this energy and begin to actively broadcast it into the world, surprising with their behavior sometimes quite prosperous parents.

Secondly, dependence on swear words almost instantly develops. Psychologists quite often draw a parallel between it and alcohol or nicotine addiction. A child who has been using since early age profanity, will be able to get rid of this habit with great difficulty. The process will require incredible effort from him.

Thirdly, foul language reduces your child’s chances of finding happiness in the future and becoming a happy parent of a healthy baby. Therefore, try to convey to your children as clearly as possible why you should not swear.

Interesting fact about profanity

Many people wonder why you can’t swear in prison. There are several explanations for this rule. The first includes the fact that many swear words contain understandable insults. And they are interpreted literally. Therefore, a couple of such words can be perceived as a mortal insult, and one could well pay for it with one’s life.

In addition, places of detention have their own language - Fenya. It carries quite a lot of negative energy and psychologists consider its effect on the body to be much more powerful than swearing.

Instead of a conclusion

We hope that you found our article at least a little useful. And now you will carefully select your words in your Everyday life. After all, if every person begins to monitor their speech and exclude foul language from it, then society as a whole will turn away from swearing. And at the same time - from the evil that she carries within herself.

1. What is profanity

Foul language– sinning with indecent, obscene words, expressions; swearing, swearing.

The sin of profanity includes any unclean, nasty, dirty word.

In Dahl’s dictionary we read: “Filth is abomination, muck, filth, everything vile, disgusting, disgusting, indecent, that disgusts carnally and spiritually, uncleanness, dirt and rot, decay, carrion, eruptions, feces; stench, stench; lewdness, debauchery, moral corruption; everything is ungodly."

2. Scripture on the sin of profanity

Any bad word is a sin that defiles a person himself, deprives him of grace, as the Lord said: “What comes from the mouth - from the heart - this defiles a person” (Matthew 15:18).

“I tell you that for every idle word that people speak, they will give an answer on the day of judgment: for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned” (Matthew 12:36-37).

“You have heard what was said to the ancients: do not kill; whoever kills will be subject to judgment.
But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother without cause will be subject to judgment; whoever says to his brother: “raqa” is subject to the Sanhedrin; and whoever says, “You fool,” will be subject to fiery hell” (Matthew 5:21-22).

“Let no corrupt word come out of your mouth, but only good” (Eph. 4:29).

“Likewise, foul language and idle talk and ridicule do not become you, but, on the contrary, thanksgiving” (Eph. 5:4).

“Mortify therefore your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil lust, and covetousness, which is idolatry,
for which the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,
in which you also once were converted when you lived among them.
And now put aside everything: anger, rage, malice, slander, filthiness of your lips...” (Col. 3:5-8)

“Language is fire, the embellishment of untruth; the tongue is in such a position between our members that it defiles the whole body and sets the circle of life on fire, being itself set on fire by Gehenna” (James 3:6).

“The works of the flesh are known; they are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
idolatry, sorcery, enmity, quarrels, envy, anger, strife, discord,<соблазны,>heresies,
hatred, murder, drunkenness, disorderly conduct and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do this will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Gal. 5:19-21).

3. The destructiveness of profanity

Foul language defiles the whole person, kills his soul, depriving it of God's grace, gives rise to other passions in him, subjugates him and often his neighbors to demons, whom he draws into his sin, corrupting their souls with black words.

St. John Chrysostom:

“Having made obscene speeches in front of everyone, he shames not others with these words, but himself, by uttering them and desecrating his tongue and mind with them.

God has put fragrance in your mouth, but you put words in them that stink more than any corpse, you kill the very soul and make it insensitive».

"Truly, there are many ways of death through the mouth, for example, when someone curses when he mocks, when he talks idle..."

St. Ignatius (Brianchaninov)
refers to foul language to mortal sins fornication, listing the “Eight Passions with their divisions and branches:

“Fornication (fornication, lustful sensations, acceptance of unclean thoughts and conversation with them, lustful dreams and captivities, failure to preserve the senses (especially touch), foul language and reading voluptuous books, natural and unnatural sins of fornication."

Jerome. Job Gumerov:

“The Word (Logos) is threefold Person Holy Trinity. Man, having the image of God, is endowed with the gift of speech in the image of the beginningless Word. According to the Creator's plan, man was given a word, first of all, for prayer appeal to His Heavenly Parent, communicating with people on the basis of love and peace, as well as to realize one’s creative talents. A person who swears uses this special gift to manifest his inner impurity, pouring out dirt through it. By this he desecrates the image of God in himself. That's why The Holy Bible names foul language along with other grave sins:“And now put aside everything: anger, rage, malice, slander, filthiness of your mouth” (Col. 3:8).

St. Theophan the Recluse writes that the passion for foul language, being related to fornication, leads to debauchery:

“In all the holy ascetics we find an indication that idle talk and ridicule are in direct connection with lust. He who laughs is himself in a lustful state, which he spreads around through his idle talk. Saint Chrysostom says: “Do not utter words, neither joking nor shameful, and you will extinguish the flame, for words lead to deeds. Just as there (above, speaking against irritable passion) the Apostle destroyed the quarrels that support anger, so now he cuts off foul language and jokes that lead to debauchery.”

Rev. Paisiy Svyatogorets to the question: “Geronda, one mother asked us what she should do. Her daughter is blaspheming Holy Mother of God", answered:

“Let her figure out where evil begins. Sometimes in such cases the parents are to blame. By behaving badly, the parents themselves harm their children, and they begin to talk shamelessly. Then they begin to accept demonic influence and [to attempts to reason with them] react simply disgustingly.”

Priest Pavel Gumerov writes that, " by uttering obscene words, a person (even if unwittingly) calls upon demonic forces... We are responsible for every idle word, especially the bad one. Nothing passes without a trace, and, insulting the mother of another person, sending curses to himself, we thereby bring disaster upon ourselves. Let us remember the words of St. John Chrysostom: “Whenever someone swears with obscene words, then at the Throne of the Lord the Mother of God, the prayer cover given by Her from the person takes away and She retreats, and whichever person is chosen obscenely, exposes himself to a curse on that day, because he scolds his mother and bitterly insults. It is not proper for us to eat and drink with that person unless he stops using his swear words.”

Very often, people who are in spiritual darkness hear voices that utter a stream of obscene language and blasphemy. It is not difficult to guess who these voices belong to. Since ancient times, swearing has been called the language of demons.

I will give an example of how the so-called “black word” works, that is, expressions mentioning the devil.

One person was very fond of using this word appropriately and inappropriately. And then one day he comes home (and there was a table in the middle of his room) and sees that under the table is sitting the one whom he remembered so often. The horrified man asks him: “Why did you come?” He replies: “After all, you yourself constantly call me.” And disappeared. This is not some horror story, but a completely real story.

As a priest, I can cite many similar cases even from my small practice.

The devil, unfortunately, is not a horror movie character, but a real force that exists in the world. AND a person who uses obscene, nasty, black words himself opens the doors of his soul to this force».

Schema-abbot Savva (Ostapenko):

“Another of the bad habits is swearing with obscene words. ...such a person, unless he repents, cannot enter the Church of God and touch the shrine. The Guardian Angel of such a person cries, and the devil rejoices. From such a person the Mother of God takes away Her prayer cover and She herself retreats from him. Such a person exposes himself to a curse. We cannot eat or drink with such a person until he stops using swear words.

For blasphemy, God allows troubles, illnesses and many misfortunes to befall a person. Therefore, let us leave behind the custom of wicked people and listen to the Apostle Paul, who exhorts: “Let every word that is corrupt come out of your mouth” (Eph 4:29), but rather, let us accept the Jesus Prayer in our mouths and in our hearts, and thereby we will be delivered from eternal torment forever. centuries. Amen".

Anyone who uses foul language attracts demons and misfortune not only to himself, but also to his neighbors. He talked about this, for example, Archimandrite of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra Kronid:

“In 1894, a parishioner of the rural church in the village of Ketilovo, Moscow province, Volokolamsk district, peasant Yakov Ivanovich, came to the monastery of St. Sergius to pray. His face was sad, and there were tears in his eyes. When I asked about the reason for his grief, he began to sob like a child, and, having calmed down somewhat, said with a heavy sigh: “Oh, father, the grief of my soul is so great that I am reaching the point of despondency. Sometimes I would be glad to die. I have a son, Vasily, eight years old, who is obsessed with strange fits, which are expressed by an outpouring of blasphemy against the shrine and unbearable foul language. There were such cases. I will punish him severely and lock him in the basement, and even there he continues to use foul language and blaspheme all that is holy. At the same time, his face turns black, and it’s scary to look at him. My sadness for his soul is so great that I sometimes lose hope for my own and his salvation.” After listening, I said to my father: “It’s clear, this is the work of the devil. The devil is trying in every possible way to destroy you and your son. I think that there is some special reason that the devil dared to approach the pure and innocent soul of the boy. Tell me in all honesty, have you ever sworn bad words yourself, and was your son a witness to this abuse?” Yakov Ivanovich burst into tears again and said through sobs: “Yes, I myself am to blame for my son’s sins. I don't swear when I'm sober, but drunk I am the first to swear on the street and swear in my house, in front of my children. This is my grave sin before God and people." “Repent, Yakov Ivanovich,” I tell him, “repent tearfully. This sin is the reason for your son’s foul language and blasphemy. But don’t lose heart and don’t give in to despondency and despair. Remember that there is no sin that exceeds the boundless mercy of God. By the way, you are now within the walls of the monastery of St. Sergius, this great intercessor and intercessor for the entire Russian land and for all those who flock to him. Tearfully ask his intercession before the Throne of God for you and your son to grant you healing of mental and physical infirmities. Believe that through faith you will have joy. Lightning does not flash so quickly throughout the entire universe as quickly as the prayer of parents reaches the Throne of God and brings down on their children the most holy blessing of the Almighty Lord. Your and your wife’s prayer is powerful and can help heal your son and your entire family.”

Apparently, Yakov Ivanovich fervently prayed to St. Sergius. He left the monastery in peace and spiritual joy. Exactly a year later I had to be in my homeland and meet with Yakov Ivanovich in the temple. His appearance was calm and peaceful. When I asked how his household affairs were, he answered with spiritual joy: “Thank God! The Lord did not forget me for the prayers of St. Sergius by His mercy.” And he told me the following: “When I returned from the Trinity-Sergius Monastery, my son Vasily fell ill. Within two months he melted away like a candle, and throughout his illness he was unusually meek and humble in heart. No one heard a rotten, abusive word from his lips. His love for me was amazing. Two days before his death, he asked me to call a priest. He confessed with tears and full consciousness of his guilt before God, with tenderness he partook of the Holy Mysteries of Christ and died in full memory. Just before his death, he kissed me, his mother and everyone present, and quietly, as if falling asleep, he died. His death was a great consolation and joy for my soul. I myself, upon returning from the monastery of St. Sergius, stopped drinking and no longer utter swear words.” After meeting with me, Yakov Ivanovich lived another twenty years, leading a sober Christian life.”
(Trinity leaves from the spiritual meadow. Also in the book: Fatherland of the Preacher, M., 1996).

Priest Porfiry Amfitheatrov spoke about God’s punishment for foul language:

“At the beginning of my rural pastoral service, I noticed that my parishioners, in addition to many other moral shortcomings, were especially infected with the habit of foul language. Both old and young, without the slightest twinge of conscience, constantly used foul language both in their homes and on the streets. Having immediately begun the fight against various kinds of vices of my flock, I especially took up arms against their foul language. And in church, and in school, and in the homes of parishioners, and at street meetings, I exposed and scourged them for this vice. The good results of the struggle were evident: foul language at first ceased to be heard in the streets, and then began to disappear completely.

But on November 2 last year, walking around my garden, I was unpleasantly surprised and outraged by the terrible “foul language” that broke out on the road running between the vegetable gardens and fields. I saw a guy, about sixteen years old, Vasily Matveev Lavrov, who, beating innocent oxen with a stick, showered them with choice abuse. In response to my accusations, the guy said in his own defense that he was annoyed by the oxen slowly dragging a barrel of stillage, and that he would be glad not to swear, but he could not control himself. Having explained the vileness and sinfulness of foul language, I inspired the guy to immediately and forever leave his bad habit. The guy did not pay due attention to my admonitions and on the same day he was subjected to severe punishment from God.

Heading with the bard again from the distillery to the manor's estate, he again began to shower the oxen with blows and foul language. Suddenly there was a deafening crash, the barrel instantly burst, and the boiling stillage poured over the guy from head to toe. His suffering and groans were heard. He was immediately sent to the hospital, where he remained for about three months. After he left the hospital, I talked with him about the misfortune that befell him, which he himself completely attributes to the righteous punishment of God for the sin of foul language.”
(“The Helmsman”, 1905. From the book “Secrets of the Underworld”)

Archim. Rafail (Karelin):

“A person’s word carries a certain energy. It connects a person with cosmic forces good or evil, with angels or demons. The highest manifestation of the human word is prayer. Even the place where prayer is performed has its own special spiritual atmosphere. That is why, when entering the monastery fence, people feel some kind of special purity, feel it almost physically, they want to breathe this air with all their hearts. Once a doctor came to see a sick nun. Entering the room, she first fearfully looked at the icons, then, after listening to the patient, she sat down on a stool next to her and after a few minutes said: “What a peaceful apartment! I will come to you again.”

There are words, but there are other, black words that carry invisible, we would say, metaphysical dirt - these are miasmas of abuse that settle on the walls of the home, eat into things, and saturate clothes with their stench. We believe that warfare in a metaphysical sense is often a rejection of God and a prayer to Satan.

...the foul language calls on the demon to diligently destroy his brothers, that is, he becomes one spirit with Satan.

...these words represent a hidden appeal to Satan. That is why he feels some kind of relief after using foul language. This is also the bait of Satan, who whispers in the sinner’s ear: “Swear again and you will receive strength from my strength, and you will sip the drink from the cup that I hold in my hands.” ... [the demonism] of the dirtiest words is even more clear. In satanic orgies, blasphemy and the most sophisticated profanity are included in the ritual: in order for the devil to appear to his followers, they need to desecrate the place where they are gathered, along with other sins and profanity they have committed.”

4. How to overcome the passion of foul language?

How to overcome the tendency to use foul language? The Holy Fathers teach that this passion is fought and overcome by virtues: repentance, self-condemnation, memory of death, sobriety, constant vigilance over oneself, prayer, chastity, reverence, compassion and love for one’s neighbor.

St. John Chrysostom:

“Do you want to be far from bad words? Avoid not only bad words, but also disorderly laughter and all lust.”

“Truly, a lot of evil is caused by the loquacity of the tongue, and, on the contrary, its abstinence causes a lot of good. Just as there is no use for a house, a city, walls, doors, gates, if there are no guards and people who know when to lock them and when to open them; so there will be no benefit from the tongue and lips unless the mind is trained to open and close them with precision and great discretion, and to know what needs to be uttered and what to keep inside. ...

Think that this is the member with which we converse with God, with which we offer Him praise; this is the member with which we accept terrible sacrifice. The faithful know what I'm talking about. Therefore, it is necessary that he be clean from all condemnation, censure, foul language, and slander. If any bad thought is born in us, then we must suppress it inside and not allow it to turn into words.

Job had such a use of language; therefore, he did not utter a single obscene word, for the most part he was silent, and when it was necessary to answer his wife, he uttered words filled with wisdom.”

Rev. Simeon the New Theologian:

“Whoever believes does not laugh, but weeps and weeps for his sins, for he hears that those who laugh in this life will weep and weep in the Hereafter.

He who believes does not unworthily partake of the Most Pure Mysteries, but cleanses himself from all filth, from gluttony, from rancor, from evil deeds and shameful words, from disorderly laughter, from nasty thoughts, from all impurity and from every sinful movement within, - and thus receives the King of glory; on the contrary, in those who unworthily partake of the Most Pure Mysteries, the devil quickly breaks in and enters their heart, as happened with Judas when he partook of the Lord’s Supper; which is why the divine Paul says: “Let man examine himself, and in this way let him eat of this bread and drink of this cup. For whoever eats and drinks unworthily eats and drinks condemnation for himself, without considering the Body of the Lord. That is why many of you are weak and sick, and many are dying” (1 Cor. 11:28-30).”

Priest Pavel Gumerov:

“He who is accustomed to swearing is already dependent on his bad habit. As the apostle says, when he commits sin, he is a slave of sin. Anyone who thinks that he is independent of his habit of swearing should try not to use swear words for at least two days, and he will understand who is the boss in the house. Quitting swearing is no easier than quitting smoking. Recently, an emergency occurred in a famous Rostov beauty salon: three female hairdressers quit at once. The reason was that the director forbade them to swear in the workplace. The young women were unable to endure this ban.

...Hegumen Savva (Molchanov), who cares for a lot of military personnel, was told by one army rank that for a long time he could not get rid of the passion for foul language. He eradicated this habit in this way. As soon as a “rotten word” escaped him, he took note of it, found a convenient place in the barracks and made 10 bows. And the vice of foul language was completely abandoned by him. It is very good for young people to follow this example.”

St. Ignatius (Brianchaninov) in the article “Eight main passions with their divisions and branches”, in the host of virtues of sobriety, he lists victorious and foul language:

“Attention when praying. Careful observation of all your deeds, words and thoughts. Extreme self-distrust. Continuous stay in prayer and the Word of God. Awe. Constant vigilance over oneself. Keeping yourself from a lot of sleep, effeminacy, idle talk, jokes and sharp words.”

Indecent language exists in many languages and cultures. These are the words that make up swear words. This is a relatively small and closed group of words and expressions, the use of which in cultural community a taboo is imposed. This group includes the names of the human body, primarily the genitals (the so-called vocabulary of the “bottom of the body”), physiological functions, sexual intercourse, as well as words derived from them. This also includes some offensive lexemes like the word, which in its basic meaning serves as the name of a dissolute woman, but is more often used in an interjection function - to express the whole gamut of human emotions: anger, indignation, amazement and even delight.
The mystical roots of this phenomenon go back to distant pagan antiquity. People of the pre-Christian era, in order to protect their lives from the evil attacks of the demonic world, came into contact with it. This contact could only be twofold: the demon was either appeased by praising him and making sacrifices to him, or they frightened him. So, they frightened the demon precisely with bad language, a demonstration of their lewdness. But they also called upon the demon with the same words, demonstrating their obsession, their readiness to unite with him. Bad words were included in spells addressed to pagan deities, and in pagan times the cult of fertility was widespread, so all bad words are associated with the sexual sphere. Thus, the so-called mat is the language of communication with demons. It is no coincidence that in philology this phenomenon is called infernal vocabulary. Infernal means hellish, from the underworld.
But how does swearing affect a person? This in Lately Many scientists and researchers are concerned.
Candidate at the Institute of Management Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences biological sciences Petr Petrovich Goryaev (author new science“wave genetics”) and candidate of technical sciences Georgiy Georgievich Tertyshny are working on this problem. Researchers have invented a device that translates human words into electromagnetic waves. And they are known to affect DNA molecules. Scientists have discovered that when a person swears, his chromosomes become warped and bent, and his genes change places. As a result, DNA begins to develop unnatural programs. And so the program of self-destruction is gradually passed on to the offspring. Scientists have found that swear words cause a mutagenic effect similar to that, which gives radioactive exposure with a power of thousands of roentgens.
The irradiation experiment was carried out for many years on the seeds of the Arabidopsis plant. Almost all of them died, and those that survived became genetic freaks. These monsters, having suffered many diseases, passed them on to inheritance, and after several generations they degenerated. Interestingly, the mutagenic effect did not depend on the strength of the word; they could not be pronounced either loudly or in a whisper. On this basis, scientists concluded that certain words have an informational effect on DNA.
The opposite experiment was also carried out: scientists “blessed” seeds killed by radioactive irradiation of ten thousand roentgens, then the confused genes, broken chromosomes and DNA strands fell into place and grew together, the killed seeds came to life.

Orthodox view.

From the Orthodox point of view, foul language is a sin. He was condemned at the Council of Carthage (Rule 71): “With obscene words they insult the honor of the mothers of families and the chastity of others.” He who uses foul language, first of all, disgraces the honor of mothers, brazenly swears at the God-established laws of birth, forgetting that he himself was born and raised by his mother. The Russian people have long called swearers blasphemers.
The habit of foul language shapes a person’s moral character, interferes with his integration into culture, and makes him unreliable in relationships with others. The habit of foul language is a sign of a person’s spiritual and moral decay. Rotten speech corrupts a person: he not only gives his soul to the power of demons, but also influences the state of soul of the people around him, he does not spare either the modesty of women or the purity of children. “By your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matt. 12:36-37).

Bad word

They wrote a bad word on the fence.
People walk by and laugh. Those who still have a conscience turn away. It’s good, at least the children don’t understand everything yet...
The fence became ashamed.
He raised his eyes to Heaven and prayed:
“It’s better to burn me than to endure this... I’m ashamed in front of people!”
The sky darkened. A harsh one has arrived thundercloud. A terrible lightning flashed. And a terrible rain began.
And when the thunderstorm passed, everyone saw that the fence was still there. Only everything is clean. The rain itself washed away the bad word. And lightning struck the house of the man who wrote it. Well, he himself miraculously remained alive.
But – isn’t it before the future thunderstorm?
Vicious circle
People said to a man who was accustomed to swearing:
- Fear God, do not insult His Most Pure Mother! How far is it from disaster?
Just where there!
He also made excuses:
- So it’s because of these troubles that I swear!
And he couldn’t understand where all the reasons in his life came from, after which he had to swear again and again...
Little parables for children and adults. Volume 1. Monk Barnabas (Sanin)

The Apostle Paul wrote about “rotten words.” In the 4th century, St. John Chrysostom said: “Whenever someone swears with obscene words, then at the Throne of the Lord the Mother of God, the prayer cover given by Her, takes away from the person and She retreats, and whichever person is chosen obscenely, exposes himself to a curse on that day, because he scolds his mother and insults her bitterly. It is not proper for us to eat and drink with that person unless he stops using his swear words.”
Bishop Varnava (Belyaev) writes that shaming is “a purely pagan heritage. It is entirely rooted in the phallic cults of the Ancient East, starting from the depths of Satan (see: Rev. 2:24) and the dark abysses of depravity in honor of Baal, Astarte and others, and ending with the classical heirs of Ham.” The cults of ancient Babylon, the land of Canaan, which practiced the sacrifice of infants, the service of debauchery, fornication, ritual prostitution, and gave the corresponding terminology of ritual spells that formed the basis of obscene language.
By uttering obscene words, a person (even if unwittingly) calls upon demonic forces and participates in a savage cult. It is known that the peoples inhabiting Canaan were conquered by the Jews and mercilessly exterminated by the command of God. And this is not at all inexplicable cruelty, but the righteous wrath of God, punishment for monstrous corruption and worship of sin.
One of the common myths is the assertion that swearing was brought to Rus' by the Mongols and Tatars. It is ridiculous to believe that there used to be pure, highly moral Krivichi and Rodimich who did not know foul language, and then the corrupt Mongols came and taught them obscene language. No, the roots of foul language are pagan spells, and they were in Rus' even before the Mongols. U Eastern Slavs, like other peoples, in pagan times there was a cult of fertility, a belief in the mystical marriage of earth and sky. At Russian pagan weddings, they sang so-called reproach songs, which contained ritual insults to the groom (so that the chosen one would not have to reproach him family life). With the help of obscene language, the pagan Slav also scared away evil spirits, thinking that demons are afraid of swearers.
After the Baptism of Rus', foul language was severely punished. The decree of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich in 1648 emphasizes the inadmissibility of foul language in wedding ceremonies: so that “at marriages no demonic songs should be sung and no
no shameful words were spoken.” It also mentions Yuletide profanity:
“And on the eve of the Nativity of Christ and St. Basil’s Day and Epiphany... so that they do not sing demonic songs, swear, or curse with any obscene bark.” It was believed that using a swear word insulted, firstly, the Mother of God, and secondly, birth mother man and, finally, mother earth.
There was an idea that swearing was punishable natural disasters, misfortunes and illnesses. Even under Tsars Mikhail Fedorovich and Alexei Mikhailovich, foul language was punished with canes on the streets. We are responsible for every idle word, especially the bad one. Nothing passes without a trace, and by insulting the mother of another person, sending curses to him, we thereby bring disaster upon ourselves. Let us remember the words of St. John Chrysostom: “Whoever is chosen abusively exposes himself to a curse on that day.”
For blasphemy, God allows a person to suffer various troubles, misfortunes and illnesses. In medicine, there is a type of mental illness (though poorly studied), when a person, perhaps even far from using dirty language, suffers from inexplicable seizures. The patient suddenly begins to spew streams against his will obscene language, often very sophisticated. Sometimes he blasphemes the saints and God. For a believer, everything is obvious. In spiritual practice this is called possession, or demonization. The demon in the possessed person forces him to utter terrible curses and blasphemy. It is known from practice that this kind of demonic possession can happen, by God’s permission, even to children.
And a person who uses obscene, nasty, black words himself opens the doors of his soul to this force.

The Savior says: What comes from the mouth - what comes from the heart - this defiles a person (Matt. 15:18). So, listen, lover of the rotten word, what does your love for it mean: the abomination, the uncleanness of your heart... Can the blessing of God descend on the soul of one in whose heart the most unclean thoughts and desires nest?.. Can a person uttering a word be heard by God? your prayer in a language disgusting with swear words? “He who utters bad words,” said one church teacher, “is not worthy to enter the temple of God and touch the shrine; for such a person the Guardian Angel cries, but the devil rejoices; God sends various misfortunes and misfortunes to such a person.”

ABC of spiritual life. Archpriest V. Mordasov

And yet language is something incredible... It really is an abyss!
Not only does everything come from language (“Again about language. Part 3”).
Not only are all the laws of Genesis concentrated in language, for “In the beginning was the word...”.
Not only is language a direct reflection of all processes that occur in the carrier society. And not only political, economic processes, which are certainly associated with the appearance of new words, concepts, and borrowings in the language, if the need arises, to somehow designate a new concept or phenomenon, in the absence of equivalents in one’s own language.
And nothing happens “just like that” in language, as a tribute to fashion or time.
Any language that develops according to its own laws is so logical that nothing “just happens” in it.
Being originally a product of the Spirit, language is, of course, a carrier of spiritual categories.
This is probably why, in many Western countries F. M. Dostoevsky’s work “Crime and Punishment” is considered the best detective! “It’s mind-boggling”, but it’s true!!!
The whole point is that those spiritual categories that are inherent ONLY to the Russian language simply do not exist in any other language.
So foul language, which many consider to be a product of “lack of culture or lack of education,” treating it lightly, sometimes using it “to connect words,” is a product of a “sick” Spirit, a “spiritually seriously ill society.”
Foul language thunders from the screens; politicians and the mighty of the world this. Modern novels and detective stories, TV series and folklore abound with words of this kind. For they are often written “for the needs”, trying to capture an ever-larger audience, often pursuing purely mercantile interests.
After all, what the mouth says depends on the state of the heart, “for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matthew 12:34).
A Russian proverb says: “From a rotten heart come rotten words.” When the human heart is corrupted, rotten, nasty words appear as signs of spiritual corruption.
The Lord says: “What comes from the mouth comes from the heart; this defiles a person” (Matthew 15:18). This means that foul language is a formidable symptom of a dangerous disease, a sign of excess filth in the heart. And if there is so much rot in a person’s heart, then foul language pours out of him in an uncontrollable stream. Such a person is the culprit of the death not only of himself, but also of his neighbors. After all, the filth spewed out by his unclean lips enters the ears and hearts of the people around him, and, worst of all, our CHILDREN!
A foul speaker imposes his thoughts on them, seduces the soul and, of course, predisposes them to vile imitation.
I often encounter parents encouraging such a monstrous process. Small child, without even understanding the meaning of this word, repeats it after his parents. Which causes their wild approval and laughter. He is forced to repeat it again and again - so “it sounds comical in the pure lips of a child”
I think this is due to a lack of understanding of the true meaning of all these vile swear words, all that truly stands behind it!
After all, there was a time when I used all this widely in my speech. I just didn't attach any importance to it.
Moreover, I thought, mat is an extremely “capacious, precise and laconic” definition of “anything and everything.” Mat was accepted and approved in the circles of the intelligentsia. It was considered a kind of piquant detail to the image of an intelligent person. Something that erases barriers and even unites.
Now let's see whether the choice of words of a foul speaker is random.
The profanity centers around a very specific topic: genitals.
Thus, foul-mouthed people are the perpetrators of depravity of people, most monstrously, children.
They are teachers of immorality, willing or unwilling destroyers of human souls, seducers of the innocent. That is, the servants of the devil.
Foul language quietly destroys chastity and decency, incites carnal lust, giving rise to sexual promiscuity!
This choice of words is NOT RANDOM at all!
Verbal blasphemy is always accompanied by action!
They grew up on the same soil and are destroying the godlikeness of our human personality!
Foul language is the first step to corruption, and from here, as a consequence, the first step to more serious crimes.
And there is no need to look elsewhere for those responsible for the destruction of our nation; After all, it was we ourselves who gave power over ourselves to demonic forces.
After all, we ourselves infect everyone around us with the virus of this serious disease.
After all, it is we ourselves who daily pour the poison of foul language into the ears and hearts of our neighbors, our own children!
And this bears fruit, growing into their flesh and blood.
In a person, the line between good and evil is erased and disappears, the heart becomes coarser, the person becomes cruel and selfish, proud, and bad inclinations develop.
And bad habits are easy to acquire, but difficult to get rid of.
And, if a person does not have a spiritual core, no faith, no church in his soul, then this insidious spirit of foul language will tenaciously hold the souls that have fallen away from Christ.
The second direction of foul language is all kinds of insult to the Mother, the most sacred thing that a person and humanity have.
This is the Mother of God - the Holy of Holies!
This is Mother Earth!
This is your own Mother!
What kind of patriotism can we talk about if its basic concepts are violated?
The holy fathers talk about this.
Saint John Chrysostom: “For blasphemy, God allows troubles, misfortunes and many diseases to befall a person.”
Holy Apostle Paul: “Let not every corrupt word proceed out of your mouth” (in the Epistle to the Ephesians, 4:29).
And finally, the words of the Lord Jesus Christ himself: “For every idle word that people speak, they will give an answer on the day of Judgment (Matthew 12:36-37).
“Jesus also said to his disciples: it is impossible not to be tempted. But woe to him through whom they come” (Luke, ch. 17).
Knowing this and keeping this in mind, you can avoid many terrible and irreparable things.
So I think...

Reviews

You have done a real study on foul language, Elena!) Motivated and well-reasoned!
And, of course, one cannot but agree with you! Especially for children, swearing should not be heard, let alone used...

According to the testimony of my 13-year-old son, however, at school there is a checkmate on them, and the 5th graders he caught while on duty usually covered those on duty with a multi-story mat... That’s how I imagined it (((Sad(((

And there are those who know swearing - and will not get into trouble - but do not use it. That's probably right. It is necessary to know, but not to use)))
And then, I remember, my aunt told me how her innocent colleague wanted to ask her male boss about what was written on the fence onto which the windows of their translation department overlooked... It’s good that her colleagues stopped))) And it was this is in the 60s...

Dear Vera Leonidovna! This topic just stuck in my teeth.. I live on the first floor, opposite the school. I often have the opportunity, against my will, to listen to all this.. One day I simply dispersed my fellow students who, without hesitation, swore directly at the entrance to the school. The director thanked me for this. And the teachers were afraid to go out.. Get involved.. Horror!
With gratitude and love
