Step-by-step master class on how to sew a denim mini skirt for a girl with your own hands

You can also use purchased fabric to sew a children's skirt, but why spend money on it if you have old jeans. Moreover, ready-made jeans already have color stains and abrasions, which will give the skirt a special charm.

Making a skirt pattern for a girl.

Although of course this is said loudly, because the entire pattern is a pair of lines. The skirt is very easy to sew due to the fact that there are no fasteners. This will be a regular trapeze with an elastic waist.

My daughter is 2.5 years old and does not have a pronounced waist, so measuring her hips will be enough. Some children have a tummy larger than their hips, so for them you need to calculate based on the larger measurement.

Draw a horizontal line equal to half the circumference of the hips + 2-3 cm for a loose fit. Draw a perpendicular line down, equal to the length of the skirt. We draw the side lines with a slight expansion towards the bottom (I have 2 cm on each side.

The denim skirt pattern for a little girl is ready.

Next, cut it in half along the center line and transfer it to the fabric. I use old frayed jeans for sewing, so it is important to arrange the skirt parts symmetrically. In this picture I showed an example of the placement of parts.

The halves of the skirt are shown in red, there are 4 of them in total. Only two are shown in the picture, as 2 more are cut out from the back of the trouser legs.

Future pockets are highlighted in blue; you will also need 4 of these parts.

The belt of the skirt 2 parts is drawn in green.

And so we transferred all the details onto the fabric and cut them out, leaving seam allowances. Next, we sew the two halves of the front of the skirt and get a trapezoid. We do the same with the back of the skirt.

Let's start sewing pockets on the skirt.

From thin fabric (I have calico) we cut out 2 squares in the shape of the front pockets. This fabric will not be visible because it is hidden inside the pocket itself. We apply the fabric to the front part of the skirt, fasten it with pins and draw a line of pockets. Draw the line as you like. The main thing is that the pockets are symmetrical with each other. Next, we sew with a machine along the intended line.

After this you can cut off the excess part. We fold the pocket fabric onto the inside of the skirt. Iron it well and stitch along the edge. We do this procedure with both pockets.

After that we sew inner part pocket To do this, cut out a rectangle from jeans equal in size to the pocket. Sew it to the blue fabric that was sewn to the skirt. I forgot to take a photo of this stage, so I can only show it schematically. The sewing lines are marked in yellow. In order to prevent the pocket from becoming distorted at the next stages of sewing, we secure it with a couple of stitches to the main part of the skirt (shown in green).

We sew patch pockets to the back of the skirt. Pockets can be of any shape, such as triangular or square. I decided to make pentagons. To do this, cut it out of fabric the required form, bend and stitch the upper part. Then we bend and iron the remaining sides. We secure the pockets with pins on the skirt and sew them on.

We connect the front and back parts of the skirt by sewing them on a machine along the side seam.

Cut out a belt equal in length to the size of the skirt at the waist.

We attach the belt with pins to the skirt, right sides inward, and sew it on.

It should look like this

We bend the waistband to the inside, leaving room for the elastic, and stitch it.

Don't forget to leave 1 cm to insert the elastic.

Our denim skirt for girls is ready. All that remains is to insert the elastic band and decorate with thermal applique.

This skirt goes well with any clothes, and thanks to the denim fabric it is very practical and does not stain.

If you liked this material, tell your friends about it on social networks.

When a girl is born into a family, no one has the slightest doubt that a real princess has been born, the likes of which the world has never seen before. Naturally, her clothes should be appropriate.

A variety of bows, hair clips, shoes and dresses fill the children's wardrobe. However, you can create the image of a beautiful infanta with the help of simpler things, for example, a tulle skirt sewn with your own hands. There is no doubt that not every home needlewoman is familiar with such fabric, so first we will get to know it in detail.

Fatin. What is it?

Fatin- a delightful fabric that turns lovely girls into high-born ladies. It is obtained from synthetic threads by weaving them into a fairly strong mesh. The rigidity of the material will depend on how large the cells the tulle fibers are soldered into. In total, three varieties of tulle were launched into production:

  • soft;
  • average;
  • hard.

However, science does not stand still. Today on sale are colored tulle and fabric with prints, shiny and matte, with rhinestones and sequins, with embroidery and appliqués. Tulle clothing retains its shape perfectly, does not fade and hardly gets dirty. However, there is one drawback. This is the fact that the fabric practically does not absorb moisture, so clothes for every day are not sewn from it. Most often, skirts are made from tulle: ballet tutus, petticoats, New Year's costumes for snowflakes and snow queens.

How to sew a tulle skirt for a girl with your own hands? Option 1

Actually, there is nothing complicated in such a creative process. You just need to have enough imagination and some sewing skills from ordinary materials. In order to sew a tulle skirt with your own hands, you should purchase the following:

  • no more than one meter of tulle;
  • one and a half meters of satin or synthetic ribbon;
  • a couple of spools of acrylic sewing thread (colorless).

To give the finished product pomp and sophistication, you need to purchase a meter of guipure that matches the color scheme. Before you start creating a designer masterpiece, you will need to find out the waist circumference of your little charmer and decide on the length of the skirt itself. Once you have received the data, you can begin the process. Today we will try to tell you in detail how to make the most original and at the same time easy-to-make version of a skirt for a girl.

  1. Lay out the purchased material on a flat surface, align the corners and cut its stripes are not very wide(about twenty - twenty-five centimeters). Please note that the length of the stripes should be twice as long as the length of the skirt itself.
  2. Prepared tulle strips Throw it over a wide pre-sewn elastic band. Fasten each strip so that you get a belt along which the strips can move freely. Make sure the stripes are the same length. The resulting skirt is decorated with guipure (simply sewn to the belt).
  3. Decorate the product with a satin ribbon. To do this, sew the ribbon in the middle along the entire length using a machine with the widest stitch. Gently pull out the thread so that you get gathers on the ribbon, and its length is enough to wrap the girl’s waist. We sew a ribbon onto the waistband of the skirt, straighten all the stripes, giving maximum volume.

How to sew a tulle skirt for a girl with your own hands? Option 2

  1. The purchased fabric is cut into four to five equilateral squares. Having decorated the main mesh with pieces of shiny or decorated tulle, stepping back three centimeters from the edge of the square, stitch both layers of squares in wide steps.
  2. Carefully pull out one of the threads to create large gatherings. In this case, it is important to maintain the length of the gathered squares so that their total length is enough to wrap around the waist.
  3. Next, a belt is sewn to the upper part (it can be made from a ribbon that matches the color or a contrasting one). This tape will hold together the assemblies from both layers of tulle in the most in a reliable way. Even without decoration with guipure or appliqué, such a product will look impressive.

How to sew a tulle skirt for a girl with your own hands? Option 3

This method is no less simple, but you must have skills in cutting technology, although minimal.

  1. You will need to calculate what the width of the fabric piece should be in order to cut out the shape of a skirt, called sun flares. To do this, you need to fold the fabric into a square and cut one of its corners into a semicircle.
  2. Next, you need to carefully thread the top edge of the workpiece, and, pulling the thread, make folds on it.
  3. Further, the sewing technology completely repeats the previous method. If the resulting folds are not enough to make the skirt fluffy enough, then you will need to do the same experiment with another piece of tulle.
  4. The ribbon belt should already be holding together two layers of mesh fabric or a layer of tulle and a decorating layer - tulle, guipure, satin, silk or other material you like.

Most girls' wardrobes are early childhood consists of a variety of dresses and skirts, because, despite their age, all representatives of the fairer sex are great fashionistas. One of the things that every little princess has in her closet is a circle skirt, as it looks festive and does not hinder the child’s movements. Today we will talk about how to make patterns for children's skirts for beginners.

How to sew a skirt with your own hands?

The pattern for a nursery is so simple that even a novice craftswoman can make it. In addition, the models are easier to make, so it is recommended to master the sewing technique on them.

The main step in creating any item is creating a pattern. In order to do it, you must first take measurements. In the case of a circle skirt, we are only interested in two parameters: the length of the product and the waist circumference. The length can be different, depending on your preferences - short, medium or long.

What does a child's skirt pattern look like? First we build a diagram. To do this you will need to draw two circles. The inner side is the waist circumference (add 2-3 cm for allowance). Accordingly, the outer side is the length of the product. Based on the available data, it is necessary to calculate the radius of the circle as follows: the circumference is divided by 2, and the resulting sum is multiplied by Pi (3.14). Calculating the radius of the circle from the outside is even easier; it corresponds to the expected length of the skirt (plus a few centimeters for the hem).

After the calculations, the pattern of the children's skirt is drawn onto the fabric.

Sewing

You can cut out a circle skirt either from a solid piece of fabric or from several parts, depending on your imagination and the size of the fabric.

  • Fold the material into four times for convenience. Using a tailor's meter, measure from central angle radius inside circles.
  • Moving the meter in a circle, apply markings to the woven fabric.
  • Next, use the same method to mark the second radius (the hem of the skirt).

Advice! To ensure that the fabric does not slip and is comfortable to work with, it is recommended to fasten the fabric along the edges with safety pins.

  • The next step is to cut out the parts.
  • Installing the elastic band (the process will be described in more detail below).
  • Processing the bottom. Most often, the edge of the skirt is processed using the hem method, but it will be quite difficult to process the bottom hem of this model. Alternative option- this is to sew a decorative ribbon to the hem.

The process of sewing a skirt with elastic

A circle skirt can be made in two ways: fitted with a “yoke” (high belt) or with an elastic band. The second option is much simpler, so we will disassemble it, because sewing a “yoke” requires certain sewing skills.

  • The elastic band can be selected to any width (the main thing is that it is comfortable for the child).
  • The length of the elastic should be 4-5 cm less than the waist circumference.
  • The upper part of the skirt needs to be folded inwards to the width of the elastic, and then the hem should be seamed so that there is a distance of 1-1.5 cm for the elastic to pass through.
  • Thread the elastic band inside the waistband.
  • Sew the ends of the elastic together.
  • Sew up the unfinished stitch.

  • Take a thick elastic band and sew its ends together.
  • Place the elastic along the top edge of the product, pinning it at four points.
  • Pull it up and sew it to the fabric with a decorative stitch.

Cotton summer skirt for girls

The indicated volumes are suitable for a child with a height of 104-110 cm (for other sizes it is necessary to slightly adjust the belt up or down).

The pattern of a children's skirt and its sewing is as follows:

  • Main fabric - 100% cotton. You need to cut two strips 60 -70 cm wide, depending on how full of a skirt you want. You can choose any length.
  • For the belt you will need any knitted material (the main thing is that it stretches well), for example, cashhorse. You will also need two strips of this fabric. Their length is the waist circumference, and the width is 15-20 cm (the belt can be made thicker or thinner, at your discretion).
  • Sew the belt pieces on the sides.
  • Sew the main parts along the side seams.
  • Sew the upper and lower parts of the skirt together, folding the lower part so that folds are formed.
  • Sew the top of the waistband using a sewing machine or hand fold it inward to insert the elastic.
  • Fold the hem of the skirt and sew.
  • Insert elastic at waist.

The skirt is ready!

This is how you can make children's skirts with your own hands very simply with patterns. Any mother can repeat it, even one who decided to take up needlework for the first time.

Currently, schools are quite relaxed about uniforms. They require you to adhere to the rules, wear school uniform, but there are no strict restrictions, girls can wear skirts, sundresses, blouses, jackets or light sweaters, boys trousers, jackets, shirts, knee socks or light sweaters. Each school has its own charter. Today's master class suggests sewing a skirt for a schoolgirl with your own hands.

To work we need:

Fabric (preferably black or dark gray, dark brown, or checkered fabric)

Sewing machine

Pattern paper

Tape measure

First step. We take measurements: waist circumference, hip circumference, skirt length.

Second step. We are making a pattern. Based on the measurements obtained, we draw the basic pattern without loose fit and without seam allowance. We take a sheet of paper that is 10 cm longer than the waist circumference and 10 cm longer than the length of the skirt.

We retreat 5 cm from the top edge, and put point A, draw a line perpendicular from it, from the side edge. We write - waist line. Below will be the hip line. We measure the bottom line from the waist line.

Third step. Transfer the pattern to the fabric. When cutting, you need to focus on the direction of the grain thread and the weft thread, because fabric stretches differently.

To create a full skirt you will need:

  • Idea. What image are you trying to create? What colors will you use? How long will the skirt be - floor-length or to be worn over leggings? How curvy do you imagine her to be?
  • Fatin. The choice of this material in stores is quite wide. It can differ in the degree of rigidity, the size of the mesh cells, and color. It can be almost transparent, shiny or matte. The hard one holds its shape better, but its raw edges can prick the skin and leave puffs on thin tights. If you choose the thinnest tulle, then for a full skirt you will need more of it. And there is also knitted mesh- a perfect replacement for hard tulle!
  • Thick sewing elastic 2-4 cm wide in the corresponding color. Enough length, 3 cm less than the child’s waist circumference + seam allowance. But in order to prevent the belt from being deformed, it is better to make it double (that is, there will be two rows of elastic in height, located one above the other).
  • Thin elastic band- spandex, silicone or hat.
  • Scissors, thread, needle, measuring tape.

Cut the tulle into 40-50 strips with a width of 20-30 cm and a length equal to the length of the skirt multiplied by two. The narrow edge of such a tape can be straight, oblique or even zigzag.

Form a belt from an elastic band and secure with a needle and thread. Secure it in any way convenient for you, for example, put it on a sofa cushion or a bent knee, a jar or pan will also work.

Wrap each tulle ribbon in turn around the elastic so that both ends of the fabric are the same length.

You can fasten the fabric to the belt with a loop, a simple knot or thread, the main thing is to securely, without tightening it too much on the belt, so that the tape can be easily moved along it.

But the most convenient and neat way is to use a strong thin elastic band and pull the tape tightly, connecting it to the next one using the “back needle” stitch principle.

When all the elastic is hidden under the tulle, all that remains is to properly straighten the folds of the fabric to give the skirt maximum volume.

Or you can tie it in knots this way, but without tightening it:

How to dye tulle to the desired color

If you can't find the material desired color- take white. You should know that you cannot dye polyester tulle with conventional dyes for natural fabrics - this is the same as trying to paint with watercolors on plastic.

You can give it an emerald, yellow or pink tint using brilliant green, iodine and fucorcin.

To do this, you need to mix one bottle of the product with two liters of water and half a glass of table vinegar in a metal basin, immerse a cloth in this solution and heat it on the stove to a temperature of about 50-60 degrees.

Leave the material in the liquid until it cools completely, then rinse thoroughly in cold water. Of course, it is better to color a small piece first to find the right amount of dye. If you need other colors, apply acrylic paint to the fabric with a foam swab (new washcloth), but keep in mind that this will make the tulle stiffer, and such a skirt cannot be washed.

Using a stencil and paints, you can apply prints to strips of fabric. For example, a cute image ladybug for the baby will create black peas on red fabric. Great gift There will be a stylish striped tulle skirt for an older girl.

By playing with the length of tulle ribbons, you can get different shapes the bottom of the skirt is oblique or train. If the upper layers of fabric are longer than the lower ones, then the skirt will take the shape of a tutu, if, on the contrary, it will take the shape of a chrysanthemum.

The lower edges of the skirt can be carefully covered with transparent glue and sprinkled with glitter.

What else is used for a children's tutu skirt?

Tulle can be complemented and even replaced with a hat veil or organza with a finished edge. Plastic nylon mesh is also suitable - a soft and pliable material for creativity.

The simple sewing technique of this skirt can be used to make a lush frill, cuffs, a hat, hair decorations and even a lampshade for a floor lamp.

After the first fitting, your little princess will not want to take off her lovely outfit for a long time, and you, inspired by the simplicity of the process and the excellent result, will want to create more and more.
