When I was little, my father always told me a story at night.

And then I saw her in a dream.

Every time the world seemed too complicated, I made up a fairy tale that contained a little of my troubles. This brought immediate relief.

At school, children asked me to write stories for them. Often these stories began with the words: “He opened the door and froze.”

Over time, the stories became more and more incredible. Then it turned into a game with the only rule- find a problem and then find an unusual solution.

When I wrote my first novel, in order not to forget how to quickly come up with fairy tales, I spent one hour in the evening writing stories. So I took a break from the morning labors devoted to the creation of “serious novels.”

The plot for the short story was born from observations during a walk, from conversations with a friend, from dreams, from sorrows that I wanted to get rid of by moving them into a story.

The Mystery of Numbers was inspired by a conversation with my little nephew, who told me that in his class there was a hierarchy that divided students into those who could count to ten and those who could count further.

The idea for “Blackness” came to me when I saw an overly caring passerby trying to get an old man across the road who didn’t need it at all.

"The Last Riot" was written after visiting a nursing home.

"The Silent Friend" - after a conversation with Professor Gerard Amzallag, a biologist who studies various shapes life. Scientific discovery, described in the novel, is little known, but completely real.

Some details from "Let's Learn to Love Them" will be included in the play, which is called "Our Human Friends."

It has always been interesting to me, when talking about us humans, to take the point of view of beings different from us. This is an inexhaustible source of thought. I have already used the "exotic view of humanity" technique in "Ants", where my hero, number 103, tries to understand human behavior by watching the news on TV, and in "Empire of Angels", where Michel Panson observes mortals from heaven and with bitterness makes sure that they are trying to "reduce their misfortunes instead of building happiness."

Ants and angels: two points of view on a person - from infinitely “low” to infinitely “high”. This book will have an infinitely “different” point of view.

The Tree of Possibility is an invention I've been dreaming about ever since I lost to the computer at chess. If a bunch of pieces of iron are capable of anticipating any possible options development of the party, why not put into it the entire totality human knowledge, all hypotheses of the future, so that it gives possible options for the development of our society for a short, medium and long period of time.

"School for Young Gods" is a draft of a future novel that continues "Empire of Angels." Its problems are the upbringing and daily life of one of the gods who govern us.

These short stories will help the reader understand how my novels are born.

Each story is an assumption taken to its logical conclusion. What will happen if you launch a rocket into the Sun, if meteorite will fall to the Luxembourg Gardens if human skin becomes transparent...

I would like to tell these stories in your ear.

As a child, each of us had entertainment - people at home. They sat in a cage, spun tirelessly in a wheel, or lived in an aquarium with a beautiful artificial landscape.

However, in addition to tame people, there are also wild ones. They are nothing like the ones that live in our gutters and attics, multiplying quickly and forcing us to use humanicides.

Not long ago, a planet was discovered where wild people live, without even knowing about our existence. This strange place is located near Kosmostrada 33. Wild people live together. They have created large nests, know how to use tools, and even have a communication system based on a characteristic squeak. There are many legends about this planet, where wild creatures live. They say that they have bombs that can destroy the entire planet and that they use pieces of paper instead of money. Some say that they eat each other and build cities at the bottom of the sea. To separate fact from fiction, our government, since 12008 (as part of the "Don't Kill Them Without Trying To Understand" program), has sent researchers to this planet to study wild people while remaining invisible to them. Human beings are found almost everywhere in our galaxies, but the only place where they have been able to develop independently is the Earth. Where is this planet located? Humans do not have a radar system that allows them to navigate in the dark, which explains their weaker nighttime activity compared to daytime. 3. How to find people on Earth?

There are many ways to detect them. First of all, these are lights at night and smoke during the day. When you land your interplanetary vehicle, you will notice their trails - large black lines.

Sometimes in the forest you can meet people-tourists, or people-peasants, or people-scouts.

There are many subspecies of humans on Earth: aquatic people with black flipper-like legs, flying people with a large triangular wing on their back, smoking people who constantly release steam from their mouths.
