TP-Link router settings without a VPN connection. Setting up the Internet and Wi-Fi network Kyivstar: features of connecting equipment

Ukrainian telecommunications operator Kyivstar provides home Internet connections via Ethernet. If there is only one computer at home, the cable connects directly to a port on its network card. If you have additional wired and wireless devices, it is advisable to use a router. It performs routing (redirecting data packets to the necessary network clients) and connects computers into a local network.

Choosing a router for the Kyivstar provider

If there is no Wi-Fi router at the time of connecting to the Internet, use the “Router” service from your Internet provider. According to its terms, the device is provided to the subscriber at a significant discount. Payment is withdrawn from a personal account, which must be topped up in advance with the appropriate amount. All funds written off are returned to the subscriber account in equal parts over the next 15 months. Thus, the user is provided with a monthly discount on the services of the Internet provider. The following network equipment models are available:

  1. TP-Link WR741ND;
  2. Huawei HG232f;
  3. D-Link DIR-300;
  4. TP-Link WR840N;
  5. Huawei WS319.

There are separate instructions for setting up each of these devices on the Kyivstar website. Disadvantages of the service include difficulties when trying to use the purchased device on the network of another provider. All supplied routers are programmed to work with the Kyivstar Internet. When you change your operator, you can reflash the router. On some models (for example, WR741ND), the firmware can be changed using software at home. It is enough to download the file from the manufacturer’s website and load it into the device’s memory via the web interface.

But most models have a hardware memory write lock. new information. In this case, changing the firmware will require a new chip and a programmer - a special device used to write data to the chip. The price of unlocking depends on the master and can be up to a third of the cost of a new device.

Advice! If you already have a router that uses Ethernet technology, you don't have to buy a new one from your provider.

Choosing a Kyivstar tariff plan

Connecting to the operator's network is free, the initial Internet setup is performed by a wizard. FTTB (Fiber To Building) technology is used for communication. The optical fiber is laid to the distribution box in apartment building. UTP cables are routed from it to individual apartments of users. During promotions, new subscribers can receive promotional codes for connecting. They are used to place orders with a discount when purchasing in the Kyivstar online store.

The monthly subscription fee differs among different tariff plans. It depends on bandwidth channel (connection speed) and additional services. The most common option is Home TV, which is provided in partnership with Viasat. View channels digital television on a smartphone, tablet or computer is available through the website or a separate application. To connect to TVs you need a TV tuner. The exception is Samsung TVs with Smart TV technology, on which you can install the Home TV application.

If you also use mobile communications from the Kyivstar operator, it will be more profitable to connect to one of the “All Together” tariffs. Besides the cost, these tariff plans differ from the main ones in the method of withdrawing monthly payments. Funds are debited from the account mobile phone, linked in your personal account. If you do not have the required amount on the first day of the month, you can order the “Trust Week” service. Thanks to it, payment can be deferred for up to 7 days. All functions will be fully available.

Note! Savings when connecting tariffs from the “All Together” line range from 30 to 50 percent. The size of the discount is determined by the number and cost of connected services.

Installing and connecting a Wi-Fi router

On the back panel of Kyivstar routers there are four yellow “LAN” ports and a blue “WAN” port. The only exception is the D-Link DIR-300, on which the “WAN” connector is labeled “Internet” and is designated gray. The “WAN” port is used to connect to the provider. You need to insert a network cable into it, which is laid into the apartment. If an RJ-45 socket is installed and connected in the room, connect it to the router using the additional UTP cable included in the package.

After that, connect wired devices to the router using similar cables. If your home equipment can operate in both wired and wireless mode, it is better to choose a cable connection. This connection is more stable and often allows for higher data transfer rates. Once the cable connections are complete, plug your router's power supply into a power outlet. Press the power button if your network equipment model has one.

An important factor affecting the quality of the connection is the location of the router. Like any radio waves, the Wi-Fi signal is subject to several processes:

  • Free space attenuation;
  • Interference (wave superposition);
  • Absorption by materials;
  • Reflection from surfaces.

These must be taken into account when choosing the placement of the access point. For example, if there are thick walls, most of the wave energy will be absorbed. As a result, the reception level will decrease Wi-Fi networks on the end equipment. Wi-Fi routers of neighbors and working Appliances (microwaves, some LCD monitors and fluorescent lamps) may cause interference. Therefore, it is advisable to position the router so that there is a minimum number of such devices along the signal propagation path.

Login and connection setup

You can set up a connection to the Kyivstar network through the router’s web interface. On most devices, access to the control panel is provided by IP address. Some devices also have a built-in domain name that you can use to access settings. To authorize, you will need to provide a login and password. They are often located on a sticker on the underside of the network equipment. After logging in, a statistics page opens showing Current state connections.

Since the connection is made through a dynamic IP, most routers automatically determine the connection parameters. The Internet appears within 10-20 seconds after turning on the device. But if the router was previously used to connect to another Internet provider, you will need to change the settings.

Go to the “Network -> WAN” section if you are using TP-Link equipment. From the first drop-down list “WAN connection type”, select “Dynamic IP address”. The path to the menu of other routers can be found in the factory instructions or on the provider’s website. If necessary, set custom DNS servers at the bottom of the page. It is recommended to use Google Public DNS or OpenDNS. For the network to work correctly with the new parameters, reboot the device.

Setting up a Wi-Fi network

Open the “Wireless -> Wireless Settings” tab. In the Network Name field, enter the SSID that will be displayed when searching for Wi-Fi on home devices. The name may contain letters in different cases, numbers and special characters. According to the standard, the length of the SSID should not exceed 32 characters. Select your country from the dropdown list.

In the Channel section, the default setting is Auto. With these settings, the router will find neighboring access points, determine their operating channels and select the one that is least loaded. This item can be left unchanged, but if you want to control the channel selection yourself, set your value. The optimal channel number can be found using the inSSIDer or WiFiInfoView programs. Their interface displays neighbors' access points and their operating frequencies.

Today, almost all people use the Internet, since life without it is practically impossible. The Internet is one of the means of communication, our indispensable assistant, as it provides answers to any of our questions. The Internet is also very often used at work. Consequently, users have installed and wi-fi routers, since we need the Internet not only on the computer, but also on the phone, tablet and other various gadgets. Therefore, in this article we will look at a rather popular question: how to change the password on a Kyivstar wi-fi router?

Everyone knows that Kyivstar is one of the most popular mobile operators in Ukraine; the operator also provides Internet services, which can be used using special equipment. In this article we consider only wi-fi routers.

It has happened to many that, for one reason or another, they had to change the password on the router. Therefore, we will try to explain as clearly as possible how to do this.

So, what needs to be done if you have forgotten your password: each router can be reset to factory settings, in this case all settings will be reset, including the Internet connection and password. You can also find out the password in the instructions for the router, then you won’t have to reset all settings.

If you need to change the old password on your wi-fi router, then you can use our following tips:

  • Internet connection required;
  • On the Internet, write 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of your browser. This way you will enter the control panel of your wi-fi router;

To change your old password to a new one, you need to enter the old one and then the new one and confirm the action.

If you have problems changing the password on your router or you basically don’t understand how to do it, then it’s better for you to contact a specialist. On the appointed day and time, a specialist in this field will come to you and solve your problem.

3G Wi-Fi routers for Kyivstar

Kyivstar is rightfully considered one of the most beloved companies of Ukrainians. The operator began its activities back in 1994 and since then has achieved impressive success. In addition to cellular communication services, since 2008 the company launched high-speed Mobile Internet(up to 3.6 Mbit/s). The winter of 2015 was marked by the announcement of a full-fledged 3G Internet, after which the provider began to actively introduce this service region by region, gradually expanding the coverage map.

Why do you need a Kyivstar Wi-Fi router?

Wifi routers Kyivstar very different from the no longer very popular. They appeared on the Ukrainian market exactly at the moment when the mobile Internet won the love of consumers. These compact, lightweight, stylish gadgets can provide access to World Wide Web from any device that supports wireless communication technology (Wifi). Moreover, you can connect to the Internet on several gadgets at the same time! Feel the maximum freedom of surfing the Internet or share it with friends - the choice is yours. If you incorrectly select the type of connection that your provider uses, or incorrectly set the necessary parameters (IP, login, password) issued by the provider, then the router simply will not be able to connect to the Internet, and accordingly will not be able to distribute it.

In this article I will tell you how to set up a router for Kyivstar Home Internet. By the way, you can read mine on this provider. Everything is very simple with this provider, since it uses the simplest connection type - . And it does not bind by MAC address. If your Internet provider uses the same technology, then everything is very simple.

Before setting up the router, I recommend doing a full . In order to delete parameters that someone may have already set. They can interfere with us.

Connect the power and go to the router settings. How to do this is described in detail in the article. The fact is that if you reset the settings on the router to factory settings, then immediately after connecting the network cable from the Kyivstar provider, the router will start distributing the Internet. Both via cable and Wi-Fi. Because the default connection technology is Dynamic IP. There is practically no need to configure anything. I have entered the settings on the WAN page.

If the Internet does not work:

Be sure to make sure that the indicator on the router is blinking, which indicates that the Internet cable is connected. If it does not blink, check whether you have correctly connected the cable to the WAN connector.

Also, in the router settings, go to the tab NetworkWAN(this is an example of a Tp-Link router; for other manufacturers, the settings may differ) and check whether the Dynamic IP connection technology is installed. It is very important.

As you can see, the setup is very simple. But, even if your Internet is already working perfectly, then the setup is not complete. Be sure to install security on your wireless network. I won't write here how to do this. Because there is a separate, detailed

The Ukrainian provider Kyivstar is currently running a promotion - upon concluding an agreement for the provision of Internet access services, the provider sells each subscriber a Kyivstar router for only 1 hryvnia. This router is nothing other than the popular TP-Link WR741ND wireless router.

This router has gained wide popularity thanks to many positive qualities, and has proven itself only with positive side. What kind of device is this and how to configure it - this article is about this.

Router components

The box in which the router is sold is in pleasant light blue shades, all information inscriptions are in Ukrainian.

Router box

In the lower right corner we see the model itself – TL WR741ND. As you can see from the image of the router on the front side of the box, the body of the router is decorated with the provider’s logo. This is a generally accepted practice, there are no complaints and there cannot be any.

The equipment is also standard (apart from the router itself), the provider has not changed anything:

Router components

    Switching power adapter;

    External detachable antenna, gain 5 dBi, black;

    CD with a proprietary setup assistant program;

    Brief setup instructions + warranty card.

Everything is packed in cells, nothing dangles or gets lost.

Router appearance

We take out all the components from the box. The router is quite stylish, round in shape.

Appearance of the device

The body color is white, only the front panel and antenna are black, and the top panel has blue inscriptions and provider logos. Previously, there was a TP-Link logo in that place.

The front panel is black for a reason, it’s to make it easier to see indicator LEDs, informing the user about the current operation of the router. There are nine indicators in total, and each has several colors and lighting/blinking modes.

Indicator designations

For example, if the WLAN (wireless network) indicator is blinking, then this moment Data is being transferred via Wi-Fi.

Rear panel of the router, bottom

The rear panel contains ports and buttons:

Back of the router

    A button to enable the QSS functionality, which is the brand name of the generally accepted WPS - automatic installation of a secure wireless Wi-Fi network with one click of a button;

    Reset button. Very useful for resetting all settings to factory values if the settings are configured incorrectly;

    WAN port. It is to this port that the twisted pair cable coming from the provider is connected (exit to the “outside world”);

    Four LAN ports to which computer wires are connected local network;

    Router power button;

    Socket for connecting a power adapter.

There is a sticker on the bottom of the device with useful information:

Sticker on the bottom of the router

The label indicates the router address, login and password for logging into the web interface (for settings), firmware version, Mac address and much more.

Useful advice - when setting a new password to enter settings or connecting to a Wi-Fi network, it is convenient to use the serial number of the router - this way it is impossible to forget it.

Router internals

The device is powered by an Atheros AR9331 processor (clock frequency 400 MHz), RAM is 32 MB, flash memory is 4 MB.

Router hardware

The Wi-Fi module and wired switch are also controlled by the processor, which is typical for budget models. Wi-Fi standard 802.11n operates at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, which in theory allows data transfer at speeds of up to 150 MB/s. The cooling system, although passive, does not heat up above room temperature even at maximum loads.

Setting up the router

The device is configured via a web interface, which can be connected to via any computer, either wired or via Wi-Fi. The first method is more preferable (there is less chance of a sudden connection loss). Configuration can be done in any web browser.

So, first you need to connect to the router with a computer. For wired communication, we take the twisted pair network cable from the package, connect one end to any of the four LAN ports of the router, and the other to the router’s network card.

To connect via a wireless network, enable the QSS function on the router, then the computer (of course, if it is equipped with a Wi-Fi adapter) will detect the network and connect to it.

Entering the router settings menu

Having connected the computer and the router into the network, open any web browser on the computer and enter the network address of the router - 192.168.1.1 (or the one indicated on the bottom of the router - it doesn’t matter). The user authorization window will open.

Enter “kyivstar” in both fields and click OK. If everything is entered correctly, the initial settings page will open.

Settings Menu Home Page

This page displays general state router. In the “status” column you can see the current version of both the hardware platform and the installed firmware version. Next, from top to bottom, there are graphs of the local network, Wi-Fi network, global network and consumed traffic.

In the tree located on the left side of the window, the settings that interest us are selected. Let's move on to the settings, and first of all, let's look at setting up a Wi-Fi wireless network.

Setting up Wi-Fi

Go to the “Wireless” menu item. A submenu will open, which consists of sub-items related only to the wireless network. First, let's turn to the general Wi-Fi settings, and for this we select the “Wireless Setting” sub-item.

Setting up Wi-Fi

The general wireless network settings will open. In the “Network Name” field, enter the name of the network, which will appear in the list of found networks in the system tray. In the “Region” field you can, but not necessarily, select your region of residence. In the “Channel” field, select the transmission channel, but it is recommended to leave the selection at “Auto”, that is, automatic selection. We set the “Mode” option to mix all “11bgn mixed” standards, and also leave the “Channel Width” option on automatic. To confirm the changes, click the “Save” button.

Setting up Wi-Fi security

There are several encryption options to choose from, but the most resistant to hacking is WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK. We select it (the very bottom), leave all the columns by default, except for PSK Password, in which we come up with and enter a key (password) for connecting to the Wi-Fi network. As mentioned above, it is convenient to use the serial number of the router as a password.

Click “Save”. That's it, the wireless network is configured.

Alternative firmware (firmware)

The operation of the router depends not only on the processor and hardware in general, but also on the installed firmware. This applies to both functionality and stability. For this reason, you can download not only official firmware on the Internet, but also alternative ones, that is, created by ordinary amateur users. Of course, the product warranty will be void if this product is installed, but sometimes the gamble is worth the candle.
