The Internet is connected, but does not work: external reasons. Internet connected but not working

I welcome you to the blog. Anyone who subscribed to the site's news must have noticed that somewhere a few weeks ago I wrote about what to do if there is no Internet on the computer and the icon appears. For many, this article has even helped to cope with most of the problems somehow related to access to the Internet.

But, here we will analyze this topic in more detail and consider all sorts of inconveniences due to which the Internet pumped through the cable does not work. We will learn how to correctly diagnose the problem and what can be done to fix it, and also, we will figure out in which cases the problem is with the hardware of the computer, and in which with the software part of the system.

Therefore, if you connected the cable to the computer, but there is no Internet, then let's not drag out the rubber and start looking for the cause of this malfunction.

Internet does not work connected via cable or without access to the Internet

Every user who has ever worked at a computer knows that if a yellow triangle appears on the network icon, it means that there are some problems with the connection or it is completely absent. It so happened that users most often encounter this problem when surfing the Internet. So let's start with her.

1. Of course, the first thing I will advise you is the simplest solution to the problem - this is the usual restart of the computer. Perhaps some of this advice will seem strange and stupid, but it is this solution that helps to cope with most problems related to the Internet and not only.

2. Next, try to pull the cable with network board, after waiting a few seconds and insert it back. It should start getting a network address after which the computer will receive an IP and the Internet connection should be restored. If all else fails, don't despair and just move on to the next step.

3. Now, going into network connections, we try to disable " ethernet' and turn it back on. Sometimes this is enough to get rid of the "" icon.

4. If the Internet does not work for you, connected via a cable that connects to the Wi-Fi router on the other side, then in this case we perform the following steps. First, we take out the power (220V) from the router and after a couple of minutes we insert it back, so we will restart the point WiFi access. After that, be sure to restart your computer, everything should work.

I started to encounter a similar problem on my home network, which I haven’t figured out yet, but as a temporary solution I use the option that you just read about.

When I find the reason, I will definitely share it with you in this article in the form of an addition.

5. The next thing to check is the settings for obtaining an IP address. Most providers today works with automatic fetch IP, respectively, the same settings should be set in your connection.

We go to " Network Control Center”, click on network adapters and there we find a network connection.

Having opened the properties, connections, as shown below, double-click on the item " Internet protocol IPv4».

There, for normal operation, we need to set the points on the parameter " Automatic acquisition of an IP address". We do the same with DNS servers.

Do not forget to fix all changes by clicking on " OK».

If before that the Internet did not work for you, which was connected via cable, then after setting the necessary parameters everything should be fine.

But, on the other hand, there are quite a few providers that use dedicated IP addresses and static network settings. Usually, if this is practiced, then the connected Internet master notifies the user about this and therefore they, in theory, are aware of all these matters.

So, if you use this type of setup, then you should again go to internet protocol IPv4 and instead of the machine, specify the desired addresses. IP, mask, gateway and other values you can find out from the technical operator. support from your provider.

6. And finally, the problems may be from the provider, so be sure to call them and make sure that their equipment in the house works or not, and also that everything is in order with Internet access.

That seems to be all you need to check. If not one point helps you, then write to me with detailed description and we will try to find a solution to the problem together. Also, if I forgot something, I’ll definitely write it here later, here’s something else, if you share with us in the comments some other interesting solution to the problem with a non-working Internet connected via cable, then I will also insert it into this article, as another item.

Internet not working, network cable not connected

Now let's figure out what to do if a red cross appears on the icon in the form of a screen responsible for the network, with a message that the network cable is not connected.

1. Of course, starting from the words of the message, first of all we check whether the cable is tightly inserted into the computer or whether it is inserted at all or not.

If you are using a router, then we check the connection on both sides. If all " OK”, and the cross has not disappeared, then we move on.

2. Notice: “network cable is not connected”, it may also appear from the fact that the network card is simply disabled. To enable it, follow these steps:

After that, the computer should start " Identification» network and get an IP address.

3. After turning on the network board, I also recommend checking the status of " network connection". Since the Internet will not work in the disabled state, but only display all the same warning that the network cable is not connected.

4. So, if everything is turned on and connected, but the Internet still does not work, try to find another network cable and try to connect to the Internet with it. If the screen doesn't care, it will light up network cable is not connected, then most likely the problem is either in the network adapter of your PC, or the provider does not have the equipment installed in your house.

5. Having tried all the tips that were given above, nothing helped you and the Internet connected via cable does not work, then again I recommend that you call the provider's operator and consult with him about the condition of their equipment. If the operator notifies you that there are no problems at the address, then for sure, we can conclude that the Internet is not working precisely because of the network card.

6. Of course, I understand that not everyone can check the connection using another board, but if it is likely that you can do this, be sure to check it, perhaps all the problems are due to it.

7. And finally, you also have the opportunity to call the wizard, from the provider, who will come, tell you what the problem is and help you set up the computer if it was connected with the network ( !!! Master network cards do not change!!! ), or in case of damage cable will make you brand new and plug in where you need it...

Based on these recommendations, you can diagnose your computer and figure out why the Internet connected via cable does not work and easily restore it. I sincerely hope that all my advice will still be useful, and will help you solve all the problems associated with the Internet.

Quite often, when you connect to the Internet, you can see the message "unidentified network without access to the Internet."

Obviously, it indicates that connect to world wide web on this moment impossible.

Moreover, such a message can be seen both when connected directly, via cable, and when connected via wifi. Its appearance does not depend on whether a laptop or a full-fledged PC is used.

Moreover, it can also occur when connected via a phone or tablet. Therefore, it would be useful to understand why such an error occurs and what can be done about it.

We will divide the whole set of tips into two categories - when the system writes such a message when connected directly and when connected via wifi.

Solution. When connected directly

In this case, the error will look like this.

In general, if you are using a direct connection, then the most common cause of such a problem is a problem on the provider's side.

Checking this is very simple - if you did not change any settings, and some time ago everything worked fine, then this is the reason.

You can also check this by connecting the cable to another device or through a router - if the problem persists, this is not the reason.

But if this is still the case, there is only one way to solve it, and it consists in calling your provider and calling a specialist at home.

Invalid IPv4 settings

Another very common cause of this problem in Windows systems is an IPv4 protocol settings failure. To fix this issue, you need to do the following:

  • Go to "Network and Sharing Center". This is done very simply - you need to right-click on the network connection icon in the quick launch panel. Then select the desired item.
It all looks as shown in the picture.
  • Select the item "Change adapter settings" on the left side of the window that opens.

  • Right-click on your connection and select "Properties".

Note: It is quite possible that in your case the network will be called differently. It is necessary to look at how it is called even when trying to connect, that is, in the window shown in the figure. The same connection must be selected in the menu shown in the figure.

  • The window shown in Figure A opens. There you need to select the “Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP / IPv4)” item (it is highlighted in red) and click the “Properties” button (highlighted in green). This will open a window like the one shown in Figure B.
You need to make sure that the checkboxes for automatic data acquisition (they are highlighted in yellow frames) are ticked. In most cases this should be the case. But at this stage, it would be useful to take your contract with the provider in hand.
It is possible that the provider requires that there be some special data there. In this case, you must check the boxes highlighted in blue and enter the data from the contract in the fields with the same color. After all the manipulations, click the "OK" button.

If nothing connects now, you can try restarting your computer. Does not help? Go ahead!

Problems with TCP/IP

Also, the cause of the above error may be failures in the settings of the TCP / IP protocol.

Most effective method to exclude this option is to simply reset all these settings.

This is done as follows:

  • Run command prompt as administrator. This is easiest to do with the following sequence of actions:
  • Open the Start menu (highlighted in red in the figure);
  • Click "All Programs", we find the "Standard" folder there (shown with an orange frame);
  • On the item "Command line" (highlighted in green) click with the right mouse button;
  • Select "Run as administrator" (highlighted in blue).

  • We write the following there: "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" as shown in the figure. Press Enter and restart the computer.

Clue: the above inscription can be copied directly from here using the keyboard shortcutCTRL+C, and in the command line you need to right-click on an empty space and click "Paste".

If this method fails for some reason, you can download special utility to reset TCP/IP settings at support.microsoft.com/kb/299357 .

After downloading it, you just need to run it, the program will do everything itself.

Problems with DHCP

To check this option, you should start the command line in the way described above and write “ipconfig” there.

If it says “169.254.[any number].[any number]” next to the inscription “Main Gateway” (it is underlined in the figure), most likely the problem is in DHCP.

To fix this problem, do the following:

  • We go to the device manager. To do this, in the "Start" menu, launch the "Control Panel" (shown in blue in the figure). After that, in the search bar (highlighted in red), we write "Device Manager".
We launch the one next to which it says “Device Driver Update” (highlighted in green).

  • In the manager we find the item “Network adapters” (it is underlined in the figure), on our own (there may be additional ones - virtual, but virtual ones usually say “Virtual”) right-click and select the item “Properties” (highlighted in red).
In the menu that opens, go to the "Advanced" tab, find the item "Network address" in the list and in the "Value" field (highlighted in blue) we write any 16-bit number for 12 characters. You can write as shown in the picture. Click "OK".

  • We open the command line in the manner described above and write “ipconfig / release” there, press Enter, then “ipconfig / renew” and again Enter.

  • We restart the computer.

If all this does not help, there is only one thing left - to call the operator and ask for help.

Important: For all the methods described above, the interface was usedWindows7, in other versions operating system the appearance of the windows may be slightly different, but the essence remains the same.

Many are familiar with the situation when sitting down at your computer, you find that the connection to the Internet is lost. A very undesirable problem, especially if your work directly depends on the Internet.

To fix any problem, you need to find the cause of its occurrence.
Why is the internet connected but not working? There can be many reasons for disconnecting the Internet, both internal and external.

Let's look at the main problems of disconnecting the Internet associated with external factors.

What is a provider and what are external causes

An ISP is a company that provides you with Internet access services by connecting your computer to the global network.

All data that you send or receive via the Internet passes through its devices, and the provider is obliged to ensure the transmission of data.

External reasons that cause the Internet to not work means that the problem originated outside of your home or device that replaces it.

In such cases, it is quite rare to correct the situation on your own, as a result of which it becomes necessary to contact the support service for Internet services, that is, the provider.

No electricity

The Internet signal comes to your house after passing quite a big way. On this path is intermediate equipment that must be connected to electricity.

If there is a power cut anywhere along the way, the equipment will turn off and the signal will not pass. You can't find out about it just by sitting at home. You need to call the provider.

The provider may, through its equipment and software trace the whole chain, find out where the problem is, and fix it.

By the way, such breakdowns often occur during a thunderstorm or after a thunderstorm. Lightning protection devices are triggered and the power goes out.

In general, the weather began to deteriorate: strong winds, constant humidity, heavy rains and even more so freezing rain do not contribute to the reliability of the channels of Internet connections. But they add work for technical support of providers, and for users they add dissatisfaction with denials of access to the Internet.

Something broke

On the long way from the provider to your home, the provider's intermediate equipment may break. This is not your equipment, it is not in your home, but due to its breakdown, there will be no signal in the house. It is impossible to learn about this while sitting at home. Again, you need to call the provider.

Everything that does not spoil, also deteriorates - this is one of Murphy's laws. Therefore, the hour is not even, something in the chain of transmission of Internet signals to your house and apartment may deteriorate. Only the technical support of the provider can fix this.

Even the provider's server can break down, through which all users, more precisely, all the provider's clients get access to the Internet. This, however, happens extremely rarely. Servers are becoming more reliable, they are duplicated, redundant, and provide uninterrupted round-the-clock operation. But still with a similar problem, too, can be encountered. Fortunately, very rarely.

broke somewhere

Breakdowns include broken wires. Well, if a regular wire breaks, you can “splice” it, fix it. But, for example, a fiber optic wire cannot be connected without special equipment, which is not always available even from representatives of the provider's technical support.

Wires can break sooner or later. By different reasons. At my friends, for example, the wire going from the attic to the apartment fell off the ceiling, where it was lightly attached. The wire fell to the floor, everyone stepped over it for almost a week. And then everyone got tired of it, and the wire was cut off. I had to call the technical support of the provider.

It is practically impossible to splice the wires on your own. Yes, and it's dangerous. It is possible to confuse signal wires with low and safe voltage with power wires where there is life-threatening voltage. Do not try to fix the break yourself, call technical support.

Other problems on the side of the Internet provider

The provider's support service will be able to eliminate such problems as equipment breakdown at the provider's own premises, or in the attic (in the entrance) in your apartment building or repair a damaged wire. And we have already written about this above.

But, it is possible that unscheduled work is simply being carried out, which, of course, you should have been notified in advance, but as usual, you forgot. The provider warns about planned or unscheduled work by e-mail. But how often do we go to our mail? Even if often, then whether email we indicated in the contract with the Internet provider to contact us? Most often, to which messages from the provider are received, they are rarely opened and almost never read.

And then - it turns out that we were warned that in connection with such and such works, there would be no Internet connection from such and such a time and date to such and such a time and date. Forewarned is forearmed. If you do not read such warnings, then suddenly the Internet turns off. The most unpleasant thing is that many users who do not read mail get into a similar situation at the same time. Everyone simultaneously starts calling the provider to find out the cause of the problem, as a result, the line is overloaded, and it can be difficult to get information.

Financial blocking

It is worth reminding yourself that when your account balance is zero, the Internet connection is automatically blocked. Maybe you just forgot to top up your account? Think about this before you decide to contact support.

A support specialist usually checks the status of your balance. If you call, he may inform you that there is no Internet access due to financial blocking. You need to top up your balance to access the Internet.

Alas, financial locks can be wrong. The Provider may erroneously withdraw excess money due to, for example, a malfunction of equipment or a program related to customer payments. This, unfortunately, also happens, and thus financial blocking is automatically activated, and the Internet does not work. In this case, you will have to be persistent in communicating with the provider's technical support, which in turn will prove that you are wrong. In general, it is better that there are no such overlays.

Problems with the router

If you use to access the Internet, then the easiest option for why the Internet does not work is that the router is turned off. It just needs to be connected to electricity.

Sometimes another option helps. Turn off the computer, turn off the router and after a few minutes turn everything back on, this may help.

If the router is faulty, then such a reboot will not help, and the router will need to be replaced. However, it is difficult for an inexperienced user to determine that the reason for the lack of Internet lies precisely in the router. In this case, you have to call a specialist from a company that provides Internet access, that is, again from the provider's technical support.

Problems of mobile Internet users

If you use mobile Internet, then there are no wires going to your house or apartment. You receive a signal from the provider via the radio. But this does not mean that there are fewer problems on the provider's side.

First, so many users can connect at the same time that the provider does not have enough power.

Then the signal may weaken, or the ability to access the Internet will be completely disabled, since in conditions of congestion, mobile operators first of all provide mobile voice communications, and only after that everything else.

Secondly, in the place where you are, the mobile operator may not be able to connect you to the Internet at all.

Alas, it means that in this place it will not work. It even happens that there is Internet in one part of the apartment or house, but not in the other, opposite part. It is necessary, as they say, to look for the most suitable place.

Third, you may run out of money in your account, after all, the service of accessing the Internet is paid, as a rule. Also paid traffic may end, there is still money, but they are not intended to pay for Internet connections.

Here you need to take care of timely bills, as well as choose suitable tariff options that are convenient for using the Internet access service. Otherwise, you can be left without the Internet, no matter how sad it is.

It can also be trite overheat and stop working modem which you use to access the Internet. Then you have to stop the computer and wait until the device cools down. This happens in fast data networks, for example, operating in the 4G (or LTE) standard.

In general, and in mobile internet there may be problems, both on the provider side and on the user side.

Site blocking: some Internet pages do not work

It is possible that you went to a website and saw a message on the screen of your computer or smartphone: "Access to the resource is blocked."

Rice. 1 Message on the screen that access to the resource is blocked

In this case, it is better to close this message first, and then open another site, such as Yandex or Google. If other sites open normally, then this means that the Internet is working for you. The problem is not that the Internet does not work, but in a separate site to which you are denied access.

Access to any site may be blocked by Roskomnadzor or the court. Or the ISP accidentally blocked the site by mistake. Below is an example of such a case from my own experience.

Communication with the provider about blocking the site

I recently encountered the problem of blocking the site. I open a page on my site and see a message on the screen about the blocking of the page. I was surprised that all the pages of my site opened without problems and without any messages, except for one page. I opened the allegedly “blocked” page through another Internet provider, everything works, there is no blocking. What to do in this situation? Why did the ISP accidentally block my page?

I wrote a letter with a detailed description of my situation, attached a screenshot (shown in Fig. 1), sent an e-mail to the support service of my Internet provider. Received this response from them: “Good afternoon, most likely this link, more precisely, the resource is blocked by Roskomnadzor or Mossud. The solution to the problem is to look in the Roskomnadzor database for what the resource was blocked for, and then contact us.”

I had to write again to the provider's support service that the page was blocked by only one provider. When accessing the Internet through any other provider, the page opens without problems.

After a long and more detailed communication with the technical support of the provider using E-mail correspondence, the problem was solved! And now all pages of the site open without problems.

Internet without problems - is it possible?

Modern data transmission systems, both wired and wireless, are becoming more and more reliable. And this is good, because, in this way, there are fewer and fewer problems with disconnecting the Internet.

It is unlikely that the Internet will ever become completely trouble-free. But already now, many users do not encounter similar problems of the absence of the Internet, both on the side of the provider and on their computers. Even, it would seem, these are far from technical problems, as, for example, financial blockages are eliminated faster. Providers offer so-called trust payments and other similar measures to restore the normal operation of the Internet even in the absence of money on the user's account

What to say about technical things! Here, a lot of equipment is duplicated, servers are redundant, information transmission channels are made along different routes, again to increase reliability. And all this in order to always have access to the Internet, without interruptions, without days off, without holidays, without restrictions.

We are now living in such a time. The time when many things are already becoming virtual, and payments, and purchases, and communication, and entertainment, and communication, and education, and development, and innovation, and so on and so forth. And the Internet is the very medium without which all this is already impossible to imagine. Therefore, the requirements for its reliability and fault tolerance are so high.

I wish we never lost the internet.

Vote

The Internet is an integral part of our life. No network - serious problem for the user. There is not always time to call the provider, but, fortunately, you can troubleshoot yourself. Below you will read about common causes of Internet problems and how to fix them.

Possible reasons for the lack of Internet on Windows 7

There are several reasons for not having internet. Some of them relate to computer drivers and its equipment, others affect system errors and the lack of correct network settings.

The most common reasons for the lack of Internet:

  • mechanical damage to the cable or ports;
  • lack of a network card or its drivers;
  • incorrect connection settings on the computer or router;
  • presence of virus software.

The Internet may also be unavailable due to debt on the personal account or due to a line failure. Before you try to troubleshoot, check if they are caused by these factors.

How to check network status

Among the problems with the Internet, one can single out those that occur most often and periodically occur for most users. Resolving them is very easy. The first thing to do is check the status of the network.

You can do this in two ways:

In both cases, under the icon of your network, its status will be described.

Unidentified network without internet access

If the computer "sees" the network and connects to it, but does not get access to the Internet, the network status will be called: "Unidentified network. No internet access." What to do in this case?

The computer "sees" the network and connects to it, but does not access the Internet

Rebooting the router

If you have a router installed, the first thing to do is to reboot it. He may simply not have time to update the data, and because of this, access to the network will be lost. Reboot is performed in the following order:

  1. First, the router is disconnected from the network. It is important to unplug the cord from the outlet, and not to reboot using the button on the equipment - you need to stop the flow of electricity for a while.
  2. Then, for 10-15 seconds, the router must be left turned off.
  3. After that, the router is connected back to the network and wait until the indicators on it light up.

After the indication on the router has appeared, you can check whether access to the Internet has appeared. Usually, after a reboot, the Internet appears within 7–10 seconds.

Checking network settings

Network settings are data that allow a computer to connect to a network distributed by an ISP. These settings are issued by the company that provides access to the Internet (usually they are specified in the contract for the provision of services). Sometimes the settings on the computer get lost, and because of this, the device cannot connect to the Internet.

In order to check the network settings, you need to open the "Protocol Properties". You can do it like this:

  1. Go to the "Control Panel" through the "Start" menu.
"Control Panel" is located in the right menu "Start"
  2. Select "Network and Internet".
In order to find the desired section, you should select the "Category" view option in the upper right corner of the screen
  3. Open the "Network and Sharing Center" section.
In the "Network Control Center" you can check the connection status, create a new network, carry out almost any action with your Internet connection
  4. On the left, find the "Change adapter settings" section.
Locate the "Change adapter settings" section
  5. In the list of networks, select the one you need, right-click on it and find the "Properties" item. Only an administrator can open Properties.
The desired network will be called "Connection via local network' or 'Ethernet'
  6. In the list, find the item "Internet Protocol version 4", select it with a single click of the left mouse button. After that, the "Properties" button under the list is activated, you need to click on it.
An item is selected by a single left-click of the mouse. You do not need to uncheck the box next to the item

When the window is open, you still need to understand what settings should be entered. There are three options:

We will understand what IPoE and PPPoE protocols are, but we will not go into terminology. It is enough to understand what protocol is used on your communication line. To do this, just look at the network settings issued by the provider (specified in the contract).

Settings can be as follows:

  • password and login are used on the PPPoE protocol,
  • IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS are used on IPoE.

If PPPoE is used and you are connected directly, that is, you do not use a router, after checking the settings through the protocol properties, you need to recreate the network.

  1. Return to "Network and Sharing Center".
Thus, only PPPoE connection is configured. Protocol properties are used to set up a wired IPoE connection
  2. Open the "Create and configure a new connection" item.
Switching between items is done with a single click of the left mouse button.
  3. Select "Create and configure a new network" and click "Next".
The selected item will be highlighted with a bright blue background.
  4. Click on the "High Speed" option.
Waiting to search for available connections can take several minutes
  5. If an error occurs, select "Create connection anyway".
This error appears quite often, but the connection can still be created
  6. Next, you will need to enter the network settings, as well as the network name - this is the name of the connection. You can use the name of the provider company or something else.
The connection name is its name, and the username and password are the network settings. It's worth noting that the password has nothing to do with the Wi-Fi key.

After that, the network will be reconfigured, and you will need to check the availability of network access.

Reset TCP/IP settings

Sometimes internal system errors can be the cause of problems. TCP/IP is a set of network protocols responsible for data transfer. You can reset it like this:

Checking Drivers

The reason for the lack of access may be outdated drivers (usually this problem is associated with a recent update of the operating system). Let's check their status.

In addition, by right-clicking on the name of the driver, you can select "Uninstall", and then restart the computer. Then, when you turn on the system, it will automatically install the missing driver.

After uninstalling the drivers and rebooting the computer, the system will automatically install the appropriate drivers

If next to the driver icon is Exclamation point, you will need to completely reinstall the drivers and check the performance of the network card installed in the computer.

The default gateway is not available

Network Diagnostics will help you identify the following problem. Right-click on your connection icon, select Troubleshoot.

By right-clicking on the icon, you can also open the "Network Control Center"

If you receive a Gateway Unreachable message after system diagnostics, the following steps may help.

Prohibit turning off the AC adapter to save power

Sometimes the system disables the network adapter - the device that allows you to connect to the internet - to save power. Try to disable this option.

  1. Find "Device Manager" through the search bar in the "Start" menu.
Opening the "Device Manager" through the search is not the only way, but the most convenient
  2. Expand the "Network adapters" tab, select the one you need, right-click on it.
In the context menu, click on "Properties"
  3. Select "Properties" and open the "Power Management" tab.
Changing these settings will also help solve the problem of disconnecting the Internet after the computer goes to sleep
  4. Uncheck the box next to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and save the data.
After changing the settings, do not forget to save them by clicking on the "OK" button.

Update or reinstall drivers

Also, through the "Device Manager" you can update the drivers: expand the "Network adapters" tab, right-click on the network driver and select "Update" or "Uninstall", then restart the computer.

If the action does not help, you can download the drivers from the websites of their manufacturers and install them yourself. Manufacturers usually offer to download drivers in the ".exe" file format, so for installation you only need to run the downloaded file and accept the agreement.

Video: how to reinstall drivers yourself

Error 651 occurs when connecting to the Internet through a router

This error occurs when trying to connect via PPPoE. Rarely, but it happens that users create a new high-speed connection while the provider uses the IPoE protocol. Therefore, first of all, make sure that you are using the PPPoE protocol.

After that, you will need to re-create the connection. The process is described in detail in the "Checking network settings" section (all you need to do is create a new connection through the "Network Control Center"). If that doesn't help, read on.

Disable antivirus

Sometimes antivirus programs block access to the Internet. Often the solution to the problem can be disabling the antivirus. Right-click on its icon in the Control Panel and select Disable. Sometimes antiviruses block access to the network even in a "sleep" state, so you can try not only to disable, but also completely remove this software. If this action helps, please report the situation to your antivirus technical support.

Problems on the router

The cause of the problems can be several problems associated with the router:

  • incorrectly connected cable;
  • incorrectly entered settings.

First try doing the following:

  1. Disconnect the router from the network.
  2. Without connecting the router, unplug the network cable from it and plug it back into the WAN / INTERNET port, making sure that the plastic clip on the plug clicks when connected.
  3. If the cable goes from the router to the computer, disconnect it from the LAN connector on the router itself and from the network card connector on the computer, and then plug it back in.
  4. Connect the router to the network.

If access does not appear, check the network settings entered on the router. In order to access the router, you will need to enter "192.168.1.1" or "192.168.0.1" in any browser (in the address bar). Sometimes the address at which you can log into the router is different, so if you cannot log in through the specified addresses, check the data in the instructions.

Internet files not downloading

It may also happen that Internet access is active, but files are not downloaded. This problem is usually associated not with the Internet itself, but with a computer, software.

What you can try to do:

  • try to download a file from another source - you may not be able to download something simply because the resource does not support downloading;
  • try downloading through other browsers;
  • check your computer for malware using any official antivirus.

Internet media not working

It happens that the Internet works, but video or audio materials are not played. What to do in this case? First, check if the files downloaded to the computer can be played. Perhaps the cause of the problem lies directly in the sound settings of the computer. If files are played from a computer, but not from the Internet, read on.

The first thing to do is to understand why this problem occurs. It may be a browser error, the absence of plugins. To get your computer up and running, do the following:

PPPoE Diagnostics

Additionally, in order to find out the causes of errors when using PPPoE, you can use the "Troubleshooting Center". Then the system will independently check for errors and offer possible solutions.

PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) is a communication protocol over an Ethernet network that works on a point-to-point basis and gives the user a number of options: encryption, authentication and data compression. It is necessary for the user authorization system, which makes it easier to track the time of provision and payment of network services.

Right-click on the network connection icon and click the Troubleshoot button. After that, an analysis will be made, Windows will try to cope with the difficulties on its own, after which it will prompt you to perform several actions.

Error 619

Restart your computer and disable all security systems: antiviruses and Windows Firewall. The latter is disabled in the following way:

Error 633

There is only one solution:

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Try to connect to the internet again.
  3. Create a new connection.

Error 638

The main causes of occurrence:

  • damage to the network cable;
  • malfunction of drivers or network card;
  • incorrect connection settings;
  • problems with network equipment (router);
  • the presence of viruses on the computer.

First of all, do two things: check the integrity of the cable and the presence of an indication on the router. Never neglect these steps in case of problems with the Internet, so as not to waste time trying to solve the problem caused by mechanical damage.

It is clear that if the cable is damaged, you need to call the provider. But if there is no indication on the router (which indicates that the device is de-energized), you should try to reconnect the router to another outlet before replacing it.

After checking the functionality of the router and the integrity of the cable, check the computer for viruses with any antivirus program.

If the above does not help, re-create the network connection - check the correctness of the entered settings both on the router through its settings, and on the computer itself through the protocol properties. Both actions are described in detail in the previous paragraphs of the article.

Error 691

The only reason for the occurrence of error 691 is the incorrectly entered password and login (network settings). Therefore, the first thing you need to do is re-create the connection. The process has already been described earlier - you need to go to the "Network Control Center", select "Create a new connection" and then enter the correct network settings. After that, restart your computer and check your internet connection.

If the action does not help, report the problem to the provider. Perhaps there was an accident on the line, which caused the error.

Error 720

The easiest way to solve this problem is to reinstall the operating system. To do this, just download the operating system file from the Windows website to a disk (or purchase a disk in a store) and run it on your computer.

You can also try updating the TCP/IP protocol. The action is described above, but you can perform a deeper operation by completely reinstalling the stack. Reinstalling the stack on your own is dangerous - you will have to work with system files, and their damage will affect the operation of the computer. Therefore, just try to update the stack, and if the action does not help, contact the provider or a professional wizard for help.

Network cable not connected

If, when checking the connection status, a message appears that the network cable is not connected, the first thing to do is really check that it is connected correctly and that there is no damage. If possible, try using a different network cable.

Make sure the cable is connected correctly. On the router, the network cable must be connected to the WAN or INTERNET port, and the cable leading from the router to the computer must be connected to the LAN connector. There is usually only one port on a computer, so it will be difficult to make a mistake.

The WAN or INTERNET port is used to connect a network cable to the router, and the LAN ports are used to run cables to computers

Next, check the status of the router (if any). Its indicators should light up as usual. If there is no indication, reconnect the router to another outlet, try resetting the settings on the router (using the "Reset" or "Reset" button) and re-entering them. You should reset the settings only if you are sure that you can configure the router yourself.

Also check the status of your network adapter drivers and try updating them.

Additional check of security settings

Security settings can also be blamed for many of these problems. This applies to the case when the PPPoE protocol is used. Therefore, if the proposed operations do not help to solve your case, try checking the connection security settings.

  1. Open the "Network Connections" section.
  2. Right click on your connection.
  3. Open the "Security" section and set the use of "Insecure password" in the list that opens.

These are the main methods for diagnosing connectivity on Windows 7 and troubleshooting. Do not forget that the reason for the absence of the Internet can be a banal debt or an accident on the line. If the methods described above did not help you, contact the provider so that the technical staff can diagnose and solve the problem on their part.

Again I want to try to answer Daniel.

Daniel, I have a TP-LINK TL-WR842N "N-series Multifunctional Wireless Router" installed.
I bought and installed it when I got tired of "messing around" with wires that constantly got in the way under my feet and not only for this reason.
Long before buying a router, I bought three TL-WN823N "Wireless USB Network Adapters" for three of my desktop computers
and handed out WI-FI internet from your “main” (most powerful) computer, to which a high-speed Internet cable was connected. All traffic went through my computer, which entailed inconvenience - by turning off my computer, I turned off access to the Internet for other family members and my processor load was noticeable.
Having purchased a router, I received a device that provides all my devices (personal computers, a laptop, a tablet and two smartphones) with equal and balanced access to the Internet in terms of speed.
Following the instructions in the router's Quick Setup Guide, I created my own wireless network, with my own password (not to be confused with the password for accessing a high-speed wired connection).
It is important here that the router connects to the Internet automatically, which is signaled by green lights. If the big light (LED) glows green, then the router has connected to the Internet and is ready to distribute the Internet, if it is yellow, then something is wrong with connecting to the Internet provider via cable (perhaps not configured correctly).
The connection to the Wi-Fi network we created is the same for both the laptop and the phone - we look at the list of available wireless connections, select the network with the name that we entered when setting up the router, click "connect". When you connect for the first time, the system will require you to enter a password - we enter the password, again, the password that we “hammered” into the router during setup (but this is not a password for a high-speed connection, you can forget that password, the router will always remember it).

Now about what all the fuss is for. As I understand it, you decided to connect your computer to the router using a wire, and other devices using Wi-Fi. I did not try, but immediately hung the router in the far corner and have not touched it since. I don’t remember why I didn’t try it the way you are trying to connect, and maybe even tried it, but I can assume that just like that, “with a running start”, it won’t work. Recently, I read articles on the internet, looking for an answer to the question of how to expand the Wi-Fi coverage area. So, it's not that easy. It is necessary to organize several networks and a hierarchical dependence of devices (the required number of routers).
From the description of the TP-LINK router, it does not follow at all that those four yellow connectors are an analogue of the HUB, designed to connect several computers to the Internet as if they were part of a Wi-Fi network, and they are not repeaters or branches of the wired Internet. It's still called a wireless router ... ..
I managed to find on the Internet a description of the router in Russian and with pictures:

Perhaps you will be able to learn something and I would be grateful if you later share the solution you found (if you find it).
And I would not suffer for a long time and would have purchased a USB Wi-Fi adapter ....
