What is four quarters, no one needs to explain. All Soviet schoolchildren studied according to such a system, and it still seems reasonable and convenient. As for exactly when the winter holidays of the 2017-2018 academic year begin and end in Russia, the specific dates left to the discretion of local educational authorities differ slightly:

• In Moscow, winter holidays for all schools are from December 31 to January 10.
